That would be bad..... definitely would have been interesting at 70mph that is for sure. Problem with some of these dudes who have those fast cars is that they don't know how to drive, and that is the scarey thing. Mind you, you don't normally expect people to plow out the anchors either.
Would that be the 'Driving without due care & attention' and the 'Drive at a speed that will allow you to stop well within the distance you can see to be clear' lesson??
We've all done it, taken chances and most of the time we get away with it, so I'm not taking the moral highground (I've done it). Unfortunately, when we don't get away with it, running into the back of someone is inexcusable, sorry mate. Does it matter why the porsche applied his brakes? A child running into the road or a shite driver - doesn't matter. Legally right, not morally right.
There is actually a rise in the number of incidents where scum drivers slam on their brakes on purpose, hoping to catch you out, claim whiplash compensation and get a new car in the process. I have been involved with a number of cases. Easy to spot, very hard to prove

Not usually involving porches, must save harder for AP brakes. Look on the bright side Dave, at least you walked away, always a bonus.

shouldnt title be 'smacked my marilyn up...plus some poor b*stards Porsche by tailgating him at speed and not paying attention'
sorry but if you had come on here saying you were driving the monaro and some idiot in a porsche started racing you and driving up your chuff, right up until the point you had to break and he drove in to the back of you....then everybody would be united in anger.

Hey Benno...The "poor bastard" was tailgating me for over 5 miles before he switched from lane 3 to lane 1 for some fancy "undertaking".I caught him again when he got stuck in traffic!Yes,I did take my eyes off the road for, literally,a split second.Next time you sneeze whilst driving I hope some"poor bastard"doesn't slam his anchors on!!!!Chris, the car did what it was supposed to do!Crumpled up front but absolutely NO INTRUSION into the drivers space! Both doors open fine with no body distortion!Front end is DEFINETLY second hand though!Prognosis is 10 weeks!!!
Thanks everyone for your words of support.I will keep you posted. The porche driver, incidently, was very jovial at the time!I rang him today to check he was okay and guess what???????Whiplash! Now theres a surprise!!!...It was a boxter by the way!
Cheers all............Dave

Tailgating you for 5 miles? So why didn't you pull over and let him pass? A Monaro will wipe the floor with a Boxter. You know that, he knows that... let him pass, smile knowingly as he goes past - you know the real score.
So you caught him when he was stopped in traffic? Not quite him slamming the brakes on in free flowing traffic. Sounds like everyone else had stopped as well.
Sneezing is one thing, failing to see a stationary line of traffic ahead is another. I do feel for your loss and I'm glad you're OK.
Just for interest, whose fault do you think this collision was? His, yours or just an 'accident'?

you drove in the back of him, your fault end of. Particularly if he slowed for stationary traffic as you now seem to be putting forwards. its a bit different from the initial claim that he slammed his breaks..... if you get hit by 1.8 tons of Monaro travelling at 70mph plus then he is lucky to get away with wiplash.
My comments are harsh, but only because your thread is about your concern at smashing your car, whilst in your own words having a bit of "sport" i.e. racing. There was no sympathy in your post along the lines of 'I drove in to the back of a Porsche at 70mph, I was driving too close and made the mistake of taking my eyes off the road.I am lucky that the other driver is ok and have learnt an important lesson etc'

Like I said,I rang to see if he was okay!Nuff said!As for braking....he jammed the anchors on as he approached traffic!I am to blame because I hit him!For the record.I passed my test in 1980,used to drive over 70,000 a year as a sales manager. Now drive about 50,000 annually running my business.I hold an ARDS licence and raced saloon cars at Brands,Silverstone,Croft etc for near on 3 seasons!Other than the track I have been involved in only one other RTA.....a non faulter!!Not a bad record I would have thought. It's easy to be judgmental, thats the beauty of forums, but just remember, there by the grace of God!!!I was extremely lucky. The intention of this post was not to"gloat" or "boast" as some would make it seem, rather it was to demonstrate that it really can happen to anyone and that the Monaro is a great place to be if you are unlucky enough! once again, thanks for the support.....Dave
Glad to hear you are ok.
I do agree Dave, I think some of the comments posted on this tread do come across as a bit harsh.
At the end of the day, you made the mistake and will pay for it (I mean money wise), there but for the grace of.......

I don't think anyone that bought a Monaro could honestly claim they have never had "a bit of sport" or "exceeded 70mph". (Especially with a porker trying his luck
)
Sounds very unlucky to have had this incident, but thats the risk we all accept when 'playing', even the Porsche driver seems to have taken it in the spirit of what it was.
Just pleased nobody injured and no decent motors totalled.
There but for the grace of god go ALL of us........
