Just thought id pop by and say hello!!!

Just picked up my new 06 Monaro VXR LS2 from Bellingers on Wednesday, and can honestly say, im lovin it!

Great car, great looks, great value for money etc etc. Have loads of questions to ask though. Haing bought it from South Oxford and living top side of Bham, my nearesr VXR Dealer is Lookers in Bham. Any good or bad comments reference this dealership on servicing etc? And also, how long to run it in, i picked it up with 10 miles on the clock and cant wait to give it a good blast.

Anyway, look forward to the replies

Paul :-)

Welcome to yet another Paul! You're gonna LOVE that motor. But even more with the proper upgrades.
Never heard of that dealership. Can only recommend Picardors and Greens I'm afraid. I wouldn't let anyone else touch mine.

Not a main dealer but you have the best Independant IMHO that I use closer to you than me! Monkfish Performance in Brackley........see banner ad at the top of this site. I use Independants instead of main dealers on all my cars, service history from good ones never devalues this type of car in my (long) experience. Having said that if Greens were closer I would use them too.

Edit as noticed your request for running in advice. Given that your engine will not even start to give its best before at least 30,000 miles just drive it 'normally' for first 1000 miles without hard braking / acceleration to let all components bed in, (see brake bedding in tips in another thread here), then drive it like you stole it You will be hard pressed to stress this brilliant engine on the road unless you abuse it in low gears.

Welcome Paul - I've been away from mine for 7 weeks now & I'll be seeing her on 7th July...can't wait either! With regards dealers, I have no experience either other than a brief encounter with Slaters in Colwyn Bay & I find them OK...up to now!!!
As advised by booster & Paul-C, look at other threads on here to see about running in!
Regards.

Hi and welcome from a recent newbie.
Greens told me to take it steady for the first 1,000 miles. After that it's
Now at 1,200 miles, they were right

Hey, thanks for the replies and advise. Im trying to be careful with the running in, but sometimes temptation does get the better of me- lol

I shall probably take it to my local VXR Dealer ( LOOKERS BHAM) for the first service, and see how i get on from there. If they are cr@p, then ill take advise from here.

Cant wait to have a little play with it either, remap and exhaust change is on the cards, but ill get used to what ive got first, and then do it.

So, whats happening at Donno?

Paul :-)

extreme...

The BTCC meet at Donington at the end of July is holding the second National VXR meet with a few other select marques joining in (HSV, 888, ST220).

Vauxhall are paying for free entry for driver and parking on the infield but it is my sad duty to report that the list is now closed with 120 attendees. However, you will still be welcome to join us, you'll just have to pay your own way, unless someone tells me that they are not coming and i'll stick you name in instead - Best I can do

Anyway, welcome to the forums... come on in, take a seat and have a few beers and a laugh with a very friendly bunch of nutters (yeah...all of yer!!!)

Often I hear running in is a case of warming the engine up fully before hammering it and keeping an eye on temperatures.
Many swear by the "drive it like you stole it" run in methodology.

For one of the many examples take a look here www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

A very good point and applicable to any engine but with a large capacity V8 it is advisable to drive gently for at least 10 miles before giving it any serious throttle, or warm it up statically for 10 minutes or so before an event.

Hi Extreme,

Would give lookers a bit of a wide berth...when i was enquiring about servicing before buying..they said and i quote 'we base the servicing on an omega, about £300 or something like that' Great eh !

Just my opinion but you judge for yourself

MMmm, Lookers have me worried now, as they are my local VXR dealer based in Bham. Where else would people suggest that i go for servicing, as i dont want a huge journey everytime i get the car serviced. Im in the Midlands, close by to Tamworth Staffs.

Ditto Demo Man - the paint is peeling off a bumper job they did for me and no one seems to know anything about the Monaros.

Spent an hour in there when key fob fialed after they said bring it down and we willl replace the battery. Spent ages waiting for technical help from Luton......

They did not even know that you can get in and just drive away.....

ukhsv came to rescue again...
