is there a way of programming a new remote key fob to your car without going through a dealer? I've heard rumours of being able to do it on other cars byusing the original fob, pressing buttons while in the ignition then putting in the new fob and pressing more buttons. Wondered if there was similiar for the Monaro?

Nope you have to get the key matched to the car using either dealer software of the aftermarket tuning software.

And my local Vauxhall Dealer proudly displays a notice saying "£45-00 plus VAT for Key Programing or Diagnostic Check" So for the 5 mins work of plugging in the tech_II and pushing a few buttons the hourly rate is £540 p/h plus VAT.

hmm thats unfortunate - was going to order a couple of hsv fobs from Ebay - only £16 or so each. Not quite so attractive if its gonna cost £100 to program 2 keys.
