Have used a couple of tanks and tbh I couldn't notice any diff from Tesco 99.

Maybe it's the same stuff?

Has anyone done a before and after dyno test to see if changing fuel types gives more "grunt"? If nothing changes then it would surely make sense to save the money?

You can check economy, would be a nice check.
Changing octane really needs a change in timing or compression to optimise it.
Id like to see an extended dyno test of one car on different fuels retuned optimally each time for the fuel. Higher octane fuels actually burn with less engergy than lower octane ones. Its just that the higher octane allows more controllable combustion under higher compression, preventing detonation etc.

I always used to use Optimax but lately I have been using Tesco 99. It seems at least as good as V-Power but at a lot lower cost. Clubcard points are better than the stupid rewards scheme Shell does too.

So tell me who actually refines Tesco 99? I don't believe they've got their own manufacturing plants, so surely they're just buying in bulk from Shell/BP/Esso/whoever then selling in bulk to the blue rinse masses?
