My synchro has gone in second gear. It was just noticeable when I bought the car, but I thought it would go with an oil change. A few hundred miles later and now it crunches almost every time. The car is still useable but it grinds when selecting second at any speed other than at tickover. Thankfully the huuuge amounts of torque enable me to bypass second and just use third, but traffic-light grand prix are out

I have had my 'box man take a look and change the oil but he confirms what I thought. The parts I need are:
1) Second gear synchro.
2) The actual 2nd gear.
3) The second gear drum.

Can anyone advise me of where to source the parts from and a ballpark price? My box man says that there are over 25 varients, and as this car is an import, I am hoping that I can get what I need using the details on the VIN plate. Other than that I don't know whether to contact Holden in Oz, Vauxhall or one of the specialists here in the UK.

Thanks in advance.

Simon.

LSV are probably your best bet in the UK as they've been importing and servicing Holdens/HSV for a number of years.

Roger at monkfish mentioned having some gearboxes of various types in stock last night at Tea and Turbo (while he was trying to sell me a LS1 setup for the volvo rolleyes) Might be a good place to call

Thanks for the info. I see that they do a complete replacement cog set with more sensibly chosen ratios..

Does anyone have the contact details for these chaps? A google brings up everything else but.

I have found their number so will give them a call thanks

Second gear is the most abused so while I'm "in there" I may have a look at uprated parts eg primary shaft etc as I know I will not be keeping this car standard!

stevie turbo knows a bit about them. I think you can replace with bronze forks for extra reliability etc. There are a few US outfits that do parts etc too. But the Oz crew probably know exactly what you have and need for parts.
