GTS on the Trader
Discussion
Morning all,
Have this morning noticed there's a new GTS on Auto Trader. It's a 99T, build number 305. I was under the impression that these all had the old 5-litre engine, but this one's listed as being "5.7 litre 340bhp".
It this possible, or does the trader listing it just not realise? It looks good otherwise and is keenly priced if it's the LS1 engine.

Pre LS1 (VT series 1 & earlier) all the Aussie HSV GTS's had the 5.7l Holden cast iron engine. I'm no engine expert but I think this was simply a bigger bore version of the standard 5.0l Holden engine - this was the standout feature of the GTS model over the regular Club Sports. As with the VT2 onwards (LS1) the official GTS imports were named GTS-R in the UK & the GTS name was assigned to the 5.0l clubby.
I'm sure Paul or the LSV lads who brought them in can add some facts if I've got the wrong idea, but I'd guess that this one is either a UK GTS and they have said 5.7 instead of 5.0 or it's a personally imorted Aus GTS (UK GTS-R) which will have the 5.7.
Interesting point above. I guess only a look under the bonnet will solve it. I'm interested as the car looks good, but I'm led to believe that the Holden engine can't be upgraded and generally faffed about with the way the LS1 can, which would make a big difference to me, that's why it's so important.
Mine is a 99 T reg GTS. GTS Coupe is correct. It will be the 5.7 Holden not the LS1. It is has a longe stroke creating more displacement and power. In std guise they are around 300bhp but very torquey. Masses of power low down, though not as much at the top end as the LS1 there is less need to keep the revs up on the iron block (and the iron blocks sound awesome too). The Holden engine can still be tuned but not as easily as the LS1. I have the Wortec exhaust, headers and a few other bits and bobs. Will be supercharging next year, hopefully a custom whipple unit so watch this space.
I'm also fairly sure 305 was a press car.
