Simple question...

I (occasionaly) want to see what my engine is doing on a run and therefore want to plug my trusty laptop into the OBD port. Don't want to screw around with anything, just have a look (i.e. READ ONLY).

What do I need, and how much does it cost?

Richard could sort you with EFILive flashscan.

Or one of the Aeroforce OBD2 guages would give you some info.

Get yourself an Autotap - www.autotap.com
It will allow you to log a large number of PIDs (Pretty much all PCM derived live data) plus you can retrieve and clear all the fault codes. I use one, as well as EFI live! -
which essentially uses the same hardware from BB electronics. Autotap will not allow you to reprogram anything, whereas EFI Live will. I am very pleased with Autotap, as it also allows you to do real time graphing as you drive, or you can simply replay recorded data at your leisure. I use it on my Vette as well, same engine! One of the best features is the user defined custom dashboard. You can set up guages and thermometers etc as required, then see them change real time with the assigned parameter. For the money, about as good as you will get. BTW, I'm not connected with them in any way, just use and like their products!

Who tunes your car? I would get the same software they have. EFIlive Flashscan or hptuners VCMsuite, seem now to be the main players and I think both can do similar things.

There are 2 versions of EFILive..one simply allows you to watch, and do fault codes etc.

The more expensive version, allows re-programming.

depending on car 5.7 or 6.0 the EFILive kit can be superb value for money. The "old" version that only supports the 5.7 is an especially good price for what you get. Get hold of ringram on here for more info.

Hi.
I realise this thread is nearly a year old but still very relavent. What did every one decide in the end for OBD monitoring? I have done a little investigation and they all look very good. Is there a specific one which logs 'G' and gps position? I have a DL1 on my son's WTP kart but he wont let me take it off for my Monaro. Any suggestions...
Thanks.
Wilsog.

EFILive will *eventually* have a black box version of it's firmware. So you can datalog on a SDcard in the handheld unit without having to lug around a laptop aswell. It's been listed as a future feature for quite a while though - Ringram, any ideas when this feature will become reality?

I use this on the Monaro and the VX220, works well and plugs into the obd2 port.
