I want to make sure I buy the right product. Must have laser and radar detection, road angel looks good but object to subscription. Not bothered about sat nav as ex boy scout. Any recomendations.

Theres not much point in laser detectors as once its detected you, you have probably been caught anyway (If speeding) Best bet is to buy a GPS based product like the Road Angel and them have a Laser Jammer fitted aswell. I dont have a laser jammer yet but do a google search or i'm sure someone else will be along to give some good makes.

There was a thread around here somewhere looking at same such thing and the conclusion wss .... a parking sensor device (LaserPark Pro?), which, coincidentally, uses the same laser frequency as the "Laser emmitting" devices that calculate your speed hehe

Take a look here,

These people say it didn't work that well. There's another unit which works in a similar way so you may have a choice. I'm undecided.

I think the detectors work by picking up the splinters when the laser gun is used on another car.

This is true, I have a Cobra Radar/laser detector & it does pick up laser deflections but the big problem here is that when yr gunning it, i's usually on a nice clear road so it's more likely to be a direct hit you have to worry about & whilst they do detect at the same time you are detected, if you are quick enough on the stop pedal you will not give them a chance to make a stable reading (2 or 3 sec lock at same speed is the norm for a chase I think).

The other issue is how close the LIDAR gun is to you, if less than 400m the laser footprint fom a cop with decent aim (at yr rego plate) may not register on a windscreen mounted detector immediately - further away & you have a better chance. Bottom line is there is always these variables that will keep the voluntary taxes pouring into the coffers! I must say though that the recent posts about the Laser Jammers has me edging closer to that device even though the Cobra has paid for itself many times over.
The jammer seems more akin to a "vasectomy" rather than "rythym method"! spermsmash

perhaps condoms may be a better choice just in case you change your mind in future. Abstention is even better
