Morning all,

My first question to the massive, as it were. I'm not sure if this is a bug or a feature, or if I simply need to RTFM.

Anyway, got caught out in massive rain yesterday picking up family at Luton in the HSV. By the time myself and family got back in the car, we were fairly soggy. So, we get in car, and the windows immediately steam up. No problem, on with the fan, that should sort it.

But, er, it didn't. I had to run the fan all the way home, and that only sortof cleared the windscreen, the side windows stayed steamed up. Not a huge problem I admit, but annoying nevertheless. Does it sound familiar to anyone? Never had something like this before (not this bad at least) in any of my other cars, so just wondering.

Thanks very much in advance for your thoughts on the topic!

you did press the button for clearing the windows and not just rely on the fan? 2 buttons side by side - one for heated rear screen, one to clear the windows. Never had any problem with clearing windows pretty rapidly - only thing is I can never remember which button does what so usually put them both on

Do you hav a Monaro? Mine's a VT2 GTS, and doesn't have that arrangement, preceisely, and no other buttons like that either. Demist, fan and heated rear screen seems to be the extent of it?

ah apologies - its a monaro I've got, you checked there is a good supply of air coming out the vents? If there is the windows should clear quite quickly, if not then sounds like you've got a problem. You may also want to try a product from the people that do RainX - use it on the inside of your windows and it helps minimise fogging. Think its about 6 quid a bottle.

Thanks for all the tips, will try all that. The aircon needs re-gassing, otherwise I would have used that. Opening the windows is also always good, but not in a torrential downpour - I tried it!

Will get the a/c re-gassed and the system checked over, I'm sure it's nothing major.

With the A/c fixed, the windows will clear in minutes, if not seconds....with the long winter months upon us, will be money well spent.

Well said BO55, will get that sorted sharpish - didn't realise it'd make such a big difference but you're probably right.

Correct, both my VT & VX were very much prone to steaming up. The a/c is essential to keep the windscreen clear, even when It's not that cold & you aren't soaking wet!
P.S Hope the baby approves of the coil overs & the V8 rumble.

agree with aircon to clear.

think its steam from the heat of the engine getting into the vents?

Car is now booked in to have a/c sorted on Friday, hopefully that'll sort it. Was quite worried when reading about the rear footwells getting wet, but that appears to possibly be a Monaro problem. Mine are bone dry, and I was out in some serious rain on Friday.

Baby approves of coilovers and rumble, definitely. Wife, on the other hand, does not...... Ah well. Can't win 'em all I guess
