What is the consensus amongst the informed on the preferred choice for a games console.

xbox360 ? xbox ? Wii ? or wait for PS3 ??

Any ideas ??

PS

I would prefer HD output and Dolby 5.1 for the games.

Firstly, the XBox (non-360) - Forget about it....old technology

The problem with the PS3 is that you wont have many games that make full use of the console's capabilities.. It usually takes 6 months before that start to flow, however, it does have major backing from some of the best software companies in the business.

The 360, on the other hand, is well established and there are some great games out there but its problem is that, IMHO, it does not rights to games such as Gran Torismo, Grand Theft Auto... probably the two best driving games EVER!!!

The Wii...Mmmm....that's a wierd one but again, Nintendo don't have the big developer companies behind them.

Now, if all three consoles were released on the same day...... I'd take a Playstation everytime.

It appears that Xbox backs the HD DVD format and PS3 will be Blu-ray. Again it appears that, HD DVD is more popular at moment.

Ahh..yes... good point.... but he wont be able to sell you a PS3... so you will only have a choice between 360 and Wii.... 360 will win for me

Me not savvy on HD...so cant help there - Console salesman will have to help on that score

As for the Amp... one Optical in is not an insurmountable problem, I'm guessing its being used by a DVD player.

If both the DVD and Amp have coaxial 5.1 connectors, then connect the DVD to Amp that way (some purists believe this is better anyway) and then you have the Optical free for the console.

Opti in sorry, being used by Sky HD box. All for nothing, been out, stood looking stupid for twenty minutes but no one wanted to talk to me, so read all about them on the boxes and going to order online. Obviously my scruffs were not worthy of anyones attention.

You must have had the "Salesman savvy look"... everyone was scared of you for fear of being chewed up and spat out

'tis true, but PC specifications vary too much and it usually takes a £300 upgrade everytime you buy a new game.

34yrs old and I've never had a console.... until I recently got a Xbox 360.

It seems pretty good, although I only have 2 games for it at the moment and they're both flying sims - why play driving games when you can go out and do the real thing? (Shooting pimps and smashing up supercars aside).

My sister also works for Microsoft, so that helps with all the accessories and games!

I just need a HD TV next Although going from no console to 360 on normal TV is good enough for now..... I won't mod any more..... honest.....standard trim is always better.....

Do Wortec or Greens do HDTV?
