But look at the torque curve though - high peak numbers, but even he comments:
"I was to do it again I would have gone with a smaller cam and given up some power to get some driveability"

Speaking from my personal experience this is exactly how it was with my NA Ultima. The 383 block made 509bhp @ 6100 and 484ft/lb at 5100. This is great if it is intended as purely a quarter mile missile, but the Ultima was used daily. The lack of mid-range torque was very noticeable and the Ultima was a third lighter than the Holden currently is. Also it was useless below 2000rpm due to the peaky nature of the cam. If you wish to 'make progress' off the lights, then you realistically needed to dial in about 3000 rpm so avoid the flat-spot in torque. If you have driven a Ferrari, you will know what I mean!

I would not be able to drive something now that makes less torque than the Holden does at present. Therefore for me, FI is the only way forward other than a 9 litre block hehe

The cost of FI is not that dissimilar to the cost of building a high power NI motor, and you have the ability to up the power fairly easily without the need to tear the engine down again.

Guys run the 224/228 comp cam for all round driveability. Mine pulls along the road in 3rd gear idling. (220/224-114)
They do 475rwhp, which isnt far off the above setup.

Check this link out www.ls1tech.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4761095&postcount=299 (Dyno sheet) 300ft/lb RW! from around 2000rpm!

The whole thread is very educational, if you are an NA bod. The cam used is a 224/228 with AFR heads.

009, 500fwhp is around 400rwhp, maybe a tad more 420rwhp say.

You can get that easy with a Fast90/90 setup, good heads and a mild cam. Say 220+
If I was to do it again, Id go CNC TFS heads, Fast90 with Nick willams 90 throttle and the comp cam above.
(TFS heads need roller rockers due to changed valve angle)

The Fast90 makes a big difference and should help push most head/cam combo's over the 400rwhp.

Ive fitted my mild ported fast90 and gained at least 5% extra power going from my efilive logs. I need to revisit the dyno, but expect to scare many entry level supercharged installs.

My heads arnt top of the line (Dart 205's), but Im aiming for 400rwhp myself.

On a budget Patriot stage 2 heads are around $1200 and TFS do cams for $275, Texas Speed have Fast90/90 combos on special for just over $1000.
You might be able to bung the lot in your suitcase and save on shipping etc. The fast is light. Split the heads between cases and voila.

As Roger will remind me, dont forget fluids, gaskets, labour etc. But for those looking to come close/exceed the entry level supercharger setups (and no more) then its an option which keeps the underbonnet fairly stock in appearance.

Roger, any news on the planned heads/cam combo from Monkfish?
