Stereo Upgrade Question

Can anyone tell me about the stereo system installed in the Monaro (05 VXR)? I am soon to replace the head unit, but can't find detail on the speaker/amp setup in the car.
10 speakers, seems to be a sub somewhere, and possibly an amp - but can't find it at the moment.
Does anyone have a diagram showing what I have? Perhaps a wiring diagram?
Thanks.

if you use the faqs link in the middle of the top of the page it'll take you to same place, theres a link there to info on replacing stereos etc. To be honest the best place to look for good advice that I've found for the stereo re amps, speakers etc is the american gto forums www.ls1gto.com. For example here's how to get into and remove the rear speakers from the parcel shelf...

Did my CV8, easy. Pioneer plugs straight into the iso/din sockets on the loom. The amp is for the parcel shelf speakers and won't be effected by the headunit swap. The amp runs from a high level input from the rear side speakers. The only thing you will probably need to do is swap the Permanent and switched +12v leads around (these are normally on bullets on the loom supplied with the headunit.) and buy an aerial adaptor, din type.
Did mine and turned the gain on the rear amp up a touch (located behind left inner rear wing) and the whole system sounds miles better.
Best thing to do is buy the single din adaptor first and then try the headunits in it before you buy one as not all of them fit as the one I have the radio is fitted from inside. This means full faceoff unit's won't click into place.
The only problem I had was the single din conversion clicks into place and is near on impossible to remove so I modified the fixing side plates so they come off easy then remove it bit by bit.
You can get an adaptor to still use the steering wheel controls but only works with certain headunits and a £50 ish I didn't bother with it.

The steering wheel controls have been retained with my double DIN Kenwood system (re the FAQ thread which I originally posted) but it is an infra-red set up (transmitter is placed just forward of the interior roof light)and can be a bit annoyingly slow sometimes.
I think you can get a direct wire set-up, Swordfishcoupe has this type I think?
I don't think that there are many aftermarket stereos with speed sensitive volume and I can't say that I miss it tbh.

Hi Chaps,
I have the wired type controls for my JVC double din DVD player, it works great - but you do this get a slight delay on response, you just get used to it.
I have the installation guide in picture format on how to replace the speakers and head unit if interested (by US company called Crutchfield about 1.4MB in size). To be honest everything is findable on the GTO forum.
I replaced everything except the two subs and the rear amp (just tweaked it a little and now get driven by a better amp from the headunit) - the main speakers are pretty poor (remind me of my Hyundai Coupe v6 ones as also Korean made). I also sound proofed everything while I was at it - the car comes to pieces very nicely.
Cheers
Steven

Hi Steven
Would you mind PM'ing me the diagram? I've found lots of info on the GTO Forum as you suggest, but haven't seen diagrams on replacing the Head Unit, so that would be really useful.
The wired control unit you have - is that the PAC Audio one or have you found something different?
Apprecaite your help.
Steve
