Chaps

Does anyone know if this unit is Multi-Region for DVD's? The Manual seems to suggest that it is Region 1 (USA/Canada) and ALL. The manual also seems to suggest that it only works NTSC and shows an error saying that a PAL disc is installed....

I know that the ones sold in the UK must work of course, but the key question is the Multi-Region one.

I'm considering buying one from a US distributor since they are around $650 over there - half the price of our £650. But of course this is only a good idea if when I get it over here it plays UK DVD's......

Anyone know?

Cheers

you could of course re-encode movies to region 1 if you had a problem, if you can still find a free version then dvd-decryptor will let you rip and modify region settings from dvd's (allegedly)

I've got DVD Decrypter. I don't use it any more of course

Would still be a lot easier if I could be sure it would just work....

well from a security point of view wouldnt you rather use backups of the dvd's anyway in case some wee scrotum in a shellsuit smashes in your window and steals the originals from the glovebox?

Hi Steve,

This is the reseller I got my region free JVC from, really good delivery from abroad - http://stores.ebay.co.uk/e-victoria

I notice he is advertising a IVA-W200E at the moment. It was one of the ones I considered when buying, the americans seem to like them.

Thanks Steven

When it shipped from Hong Kong did you end up having to pay UPS import duties on top of the price your paid the retailer?

If their advert is to be believed the US spec unit wouldn't work, but these Asia spec ones will...

Hi Steve,

I am realiably informed the US radio transmissions do not get broadcast on the same wavelengths are us - so yes, the US spec is great for DVD etc but will need some sort of adapter for the radio. I could not be bothered with all that.

The item turned up in just over a week and I think I got the normal charges etc - seem to remember it was about £40-£50 area, so still way cheaper than the UK pricing. Plus region free, not sure about the Pioneer but the JVC is supposed to be a pain to hack (needs some remote which is very strange and only a handful in the UK or some story or other).

Cheers
Steven
