Electric feed for sat nav and car phone
Discussion
Hi There, The car is a 6.0 VXR - I need to find a suitable electric feed to power a Road Angel and a car phone kit. Any ideas, I want them both to only be powered with the ignition on. Also has anyone experience they can share, with radio muting when the car phone is in use please. Lastly, how do you extract the Radio unit out of the dash please (I am sure some of the local kids round our way know how to get the radio out, but I was hoping a brick was not on the list of required tools).
Any ideas where to mount the phone cradle? I guess the obvious option blocks one of the cup holders, not exactly a problem; I don’t think I have ever used a cup holder in a car yet. Perhaps I should start a survey and ask if anyone ever has? The idea of a cup full of liquid hanging on the dash of any car fills me with dread, let alone a car like this?
More slight frustration and observation than a question but the standard Radio/CD does not appear to come with TP facility does it, tell me I am not missing something?
Thanks!

Hi
No TP or RDS on the radio.
There is an accessory input feed in the back of the unit for phone system auto mute etc. (so i am told)
I have nokia kit in mine that works through radio with no probs, also have Origin and sat nav that only run when ignition on, not sure whether they come off same feed.

local autospares shop should be able to supply suitable tools for removing the radio - basically its 2 U shaped pieces of wire you insert into the holes at the sides of the radio. They release the clips that hold it in place and radio should(!) just slide out using them as a pull. You can also fashion your own out some stiff wire - coathanger or similiar.
I use my cup holders fairly regularly but rarely when driving and usually to hold sealed bottles rather than cups.
Radio doesnt support TP or RDS as I recall, don't think either is used in Oz so no need for it on the stereo. It really is a fairly basic unit the standard head - won't play mp3's either. To get all the features you can either buy a replacement double din unit - start around 500-600 and go upwards or buy a single din adaptor and buy a 120 quid unit from halfrauds

Check if you have the car kit plug behind the passenger side transmission tunnel trim panel. It's there in my '04 CV8 and I have my car kit wired through it. Has audio mute built in.

To pull the stereo out... pretty simple. Grab a wire coat hanger. Cut it so that it makes to bits that you can then bend into a U shape. Push into the holes on the front, and just pull out... pretty straight forward.
I have a bunch of stereo loom connectors, just not sure if the suit the monaros over here, but could be. They are a different stereo, and if you could take a photo of the connector will be able to tell you if it will fit or not..
There should be a red and earth and mute line as said before on the passenger side. just tap into it, or shop around for a plug.
