having received the mirror ages ago (cheers Bo55!) I put it somewhere safe until I got to a point I could do the job. As it happens I foolishly must have not kept the instructions with the mirror and now cannot find them.

Can someone do a quick run down of how to remove the mirror and fit the new one - for removal please dont suggest a hammer and a good whack

cheers

With care is all I can say.

And don't let a Vauxhall Dealer touch it either (other than the good guys )

Err...ok, I'll try and make this easy.

Step 1 - Set to FULL left and FULL up
Step 2 - Insert flat blade screwdriver between mirror and housing, from about the 4/5 o'clock postion, check replacement mirror for guideline (there's a little "window" in the backing plate)
Step 3 - Genently lever the old one out buy twisting and pulling screwdriver handle towards you. You have to be fairly firm with it, but not too brutal as you'll pull the mounting plate away from the ajusters
Step 4 - Mirror should "pop off"
Step 5 - Set mirror mounting plate to a more central position
Step 6 - Place new mirror over housing plate and press home with EVEN pressure over whole mirror. There should be a distinct CLICK as it locks in.
Step 7 - You're Done!

Fitting service will once again be available at VXR National Meets - Now, where did I put my screwdriver yikes

When you take the old one off you will see where the spring goes - but yes, it slots in the back. Did mine about a week ago and when you haven't done as many as B055 it is a tad nerve wracking!

big thanks to all for help and to B055 for supplying on of the best mods to do to your car

finally did the swap at lunch, so far so good but kept the old one just in case the new one falls off with my hamfisted diy skills
