VXR500 article in this months Evo

Picked up the latest edition of Evo today and there's an 8 page article their attempt to max out the VXR500. Won't spoil it for anyone that wants to read the whole article...

I've read it. All I'll say is that I'm surprised given that my stock CV8 did 154mph at Bruntingthorpe.

It seemed to top out at around 165mph but they reckon they got an non-Vbox verified 170mph based on revs of 4200rpm in 6th. Given many kilometers of space to play with that seems low for a 500bhp car. Maybe 6th is just too long and a 3.9 diff would make it a different story.

It wasn't a side by side test but they claim to have had 177mph out of the Carlton in 5th gear.

Interestingly they claim that the speedo won't read beyond 163mph

Nope, no shots of them together. The story is all about the Monaro with an inset panel talking about the Lotus.

The speedo's dont read above 160 ish on any of the Monaro's (well they do when you have irratic dial syndrome!!)

So are you saying a standard VXR8 will be quicker than a VXR500? 170 seems crap tbh for a 500+hp car, we had 150 out of our CV8 when it was stock and that was still in 5th.

The weather stopped any chance of a real top speed run.....so they must have just picked a number!!!!

a comparison between the standard VXR8 and Standard Lotus Carlton will be a good write up....(the old girl can still move)

As for the Wortec Supercharged VXR8? she's a beast.....

they didnt get to max the car out but said it could have gone 185+

When hammering it through Germany I got mine to 260Kph. The needle sticks at 200 and the LCD pannel takes up the mantle (even if the option of displaying it is turned off).

BTW, 5th to 6th gear change is done at about 250Kph and I ran out of road so couldnt go any faster.
