5 wire Maf's with the IAT in them are a bit more tricky. You can get a splitter and use a standard IAT and dump the MAF. Or you can leave the MAF inline for the IAT and still run Mafless mode. You will get the increased throttle response down low where SD excels over MAF metering, but wont gain the removal of the restriction. 85m mafs of course restict less than the old 75mm jobs anyway. But both have an inherent limitation on metering in that they cannot read more than 512g/sec of air. Which is why the MAF is normally the first thing to get removed on performance engines.
For the older cars with a separate IAT its as simple as removing it. It will run, but timing will be based on a low octane table. The simple fix is to copy the high octane table to the low table. Thats what the HSV GTS-R tune is. A 30 second job. You can then disable the MIL light on the dash with the tune tool too and you will have an HSV Mafless tune just like that.
You can try it easy, just unplug the maf and start the car. It will run ok, but timing will be down unless you copy the table over as above.
