The Beast has to go
Discussion
Unfortunately my 04 CV8 has to go (I have no option) as I now have a job working in Birmingham and the commute is just two far.
I have tried all options to keep her but it is just not financially possible.
So as from the 30th March she is up for sale - hoping she goes to a good home
Will be up for around 16k ono (wortec sport pac, hsv alloys etc)
Will put on pistonheads when I get a minute to myself.
I have to say the Monaro is a joy to own and one of the best cars I have ever driven / owned (and that includes TVR, Porsches and Ferrari's)

sorry to hear you've got to give her up. Not a great time to be selling either - I was looking for 04 VXR's last week and did a quick trawl of Autotrader - in total there were over 50 Monaros of one type or another up for sale. Hope you get a good price for her and she goes to a good new home.

still going to take a hell of a long time to pay for itself - sensible motorway driving will see you getting 25-30mpg from the Monaro all day long and while its okay if you've got an 04 model you can lose half the boot for the lpg tank, not so good if you have a later model when you'd lose what little boot you have left.
Simplest answer is to get a good daily runner thats cheap on fuel and insurance - Corsa diesel for example. Even buying new I worked out buying filling and insuring it was around 50% of the price I'd have been paying each month on fuel to sit in traffic jams in the Monaro. I was fortunate to be in the postition where I could do that financially and have the 'ro for the weekends. Others may not be able to do so.

£2.5K will buy you a decent 2nd hand smart car - join the "Smart + Oz V8" Club - very exclusive indeed
(so exclusive in fact that I had to sell my HSV to leave it). smart car is awesome daily runaround - runs on a cow's fart and trots along OK at 80 too. (unless you mod it like Will has & then you'll even suprise a few punters when u blow them at the lights!). One thing I can promise you after you sell the Ro.. you'll only be depressed every time you drive your "normal" car. Other than that you'll be fine.

4000 miles should pay for itsself
if going for a diesel can I recommend the 3 door sport hatch astra with the 150ps cdti engine - 270 quid and the right forum membership will get you the CRD2 plug-in box from dtuk that will give it an immediate boost to 200bhp and improve fuel consumption as well, will also fit the Vectra diesels if you want something a bit bigger - you can get a pre-reg Vec Sri with sat nav for around 10k just now if you shop about.
