finally fitted the HID kit ive had sat here looking at me foe 5 weeks and how easy was it i hear you all ask?
from pullin into the garage it took us an hour,
remove front bumper and headlights. fit brackets and ballasts to wing mount. drill bulb cover and plug wires in and voilaaaa
will get pics of both when its dark, looks ten times better dont ya think?

Yup - my only concern would be the legality of it all. But it's something I'd like to do.
if you think of the legality of it then no point in doing anything a bit different to a car really is there. i mean how many of us me included have a smaller plate on the front bumper than we should do. and how many have declared ALL there mods however trivial and how many of us on here never get that needle over 70mph.
worry about that if and when i get pulled and the good thing is this kit was plug abd play so easlily taken off so go for it mate

in what way stig?
just whenever I see hids coming towards me they make me wish my car was a sherman tank and I could squish them off the road. I don;t have glaucoma but they make my vision feel like it.
Thankfully the autodimming rear view mirror takes care of them but alas, the wing mirros don't. In reality they dont really offer a great deal of improvement over standard bulbs, course there are advantages such as they are not as tiring on the drivers eye, but to everyone else (well to me) they are a real annoyance
Not having a go, just pointing out that you will now notice people flashing you with full beams more often.

didnt think you was having a go chum but so far so good, wen t for a thrash, sorry correction leisurely drive last night of about 100 mile and no flashing, even on country roads but have noticed i can see a bend now before i get on top of it.
just have to see how it goes, will keep ya posted. the good thing is they were just plug and play so easily removed.

just been on the DVLA website quote: Display of Vehicle Registration marks on Imported Vehicles (which have a restricted space for standard size number plate)
Certain imported vehicles may be permitted to display number plates with smaller characters if:-
The vehicle does not have European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval
and
The vehicle's construction/design cannot accomodate standard size number plates
Specification
Character Height 64mm
Character Width 44mm
Character Stroke 10mm
Space between Characters 10mm
standard is 79mm
width 50mm
stroke 14mm
space 11mm
so the main question for our Vauxhall representatives does the Monaro have European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval?
Caspy, Stu or anyone?
I have fitted a small plate within 2 days was pulled by the law, explained this and they gave up, I intend to keep a copy of the document in the car for future reference

None of the Monaros or HSV's have European Type Approval. When I had my Clubsport SVA'd, the VOSA bloke tried a standard UK plate on it, didn't fit, so he told me that I could have a plate made to fit as long as the lettering met the specs you mentioned.

My comment was based on the lenses and how they can dazzle others. Having been on the receiving end - it's not much fun. My Calibra had every single mod declared to the insurer - and if I ever mod the Monaro (unlikely) then I'll do the same. It's not worth trying to get out of it.

well to my disappointment also having owned a calibra to find the ozzy lump to have the same blindness down the darker roads i needed to do something , my eyesight aint too hot in the dark lol.
as for dazzling, do you mean aftermarket wise or all hid in general chief

Aftermarket. HIDs are big on the modding scene (especially Calibras - last year at Billing a good percentage of Calibras had 'blue' lights) and there is something to be said for getting it right first time round.
I have nothing against it - but as often is the case, it's a quick mod done wrong and everyone has to suffer but the driver.
