Hi, Ive been making my mind up for the last year which car to get next. Ive considered the usual evo 8, vx220 turbo, 350z,M3, and quite a few others. Ive ruled most of the above out for various reasons.

The monaro vxr (5.7 version) seems to be very good value, seen a few hovering around 18k recently. I've always loved v8's.

1) Will it be sideways at every corner in the wet as it will be my only car?
2) Do they feel heavy in the twisty bits?
3) What's max mph in first 3 gears? ie. My Clio 182 is about 40mph in 1st 61mph 2nd 95mph 3rd
4) Will I get one for 17.5k-19.5k?
5) What are tyre sizes front & rear
6) With the wortec performance pack wot bhp will it run & does the exhaust bit remove the cats. I wouldnt mind too much if it meant de-cat as from what ive read its not illegal however you'll just fail MOT/Roadside tests. Upon failing roadside test they give you 7 days to put cats back on.

Thanks,

Dodd

1) If you want it to yes
2) Compared with a 182 yes it would.
3) The Monaro is long geared, would be pretty much the same as the 182 (Never looked!)
4) I would think you would get one a bit cheaper, have a look at the classifieds
5 & 6) I haven't got a 5.7 so couldn't tell you, but performace packs do not remove cats.

Hope that helps

ETA: Sorry, just re-read and you wanted a 5.7 VXR, they are rarer than rocking horse poo!

Thanks for your reply Daz. I can take my time to find one so no rush. Cant quite stretch to the 6.0 at the moment and also need the extra cash to get it rattling the neighboors windows!

How long can you wait....

With Vaux launching the VXR8 in the next few months (June/July IIRC), there might be a distinct surplus of second hand Monaros

Tyres are 235 wide.

Performance Pac replaces stock cats with high flow ones. All legal, all included in the price.

Unless it is a VXR and then they are 245/35 R19.

Had a look at those 245/35/r19 tyres, theyre well minty. Suppose Im used to £85 a corner on my Clio. How rare are these 5.7 VXR's? I'm guessing less than 200 built.

I think there where only 60 imported, they will be quite rare and there has been some atritrition as well.

Ouch! not many then. I'd go for a 6.0 but its stretching funds and i would'nt be able to afford the wortec performance pack if i'd spent that much. I prefer the looks of the VXR's and i dont really want to buy a normall monaro and start messing around with spoilers and bonnet vents ect. I'll either have to wait or splash out on a 6.0 i guess.

Well the power of the vxr6L will probably beat a tuned 5.7 you should be able to get one for 20k. Might be good to go that way?
Or save a load and get a 5.7 with the vented bonnet..
too many options

I would get an 05 CV8, has the bonnet vents etc and also twin exhaust and is right in your price range. Performance pac will give circa 410hp I think, Focus pac which we had on our 04 CV8 ran 430hp.
