Does anyone have any suggestions on upgrading the brakes from standard?

thx yorkkie. I suspect I do need pads anyway, but considering the bigger discs, calipers et al. Been quoted around £2.5 by a dealer, no idea if this is good or bad.

All I know is the thing is a bugger to stop at the mo!

It depends what car. If you have a CV8 then you can upgrade to VXR brakes for not much or you can go the whole hog and get the big APs which are £2.5k.

theres another option - well 2 that I know of - Wortec were supposed to be doing an intermediate package though havent heard of anyone getting them fitted yet, be worth giving one of their dealers a phone and asking a few questions as they were supposed to be better than VXR. Mark at Rapid GB has a new AP equivalent package coming that has 2 piece discs etc and I believe he's expecting to do them for around 500 quid or so less than current AP pricing, hopefully when his website goes up there will be more info on them.

Also Monkfish do uprated pads for the standard brakes which apparently make a world of difference and obviously much cheaper than the other options.

I've been quoted £1900 for a front upgrade to a Stoptech Big Brake kit. I've had one on a previous car and it was nothing short of eye popping!

When AP initially looked at upgrades for Monaro, they found that a front only upgrade was inappropriate as the rear set up vs their front set up could be dangerous as the braking performance was so different.

That seems a little pricey since the AP setup is £2.5k and for that you get front AND rear disks and calipers all fitted and including VAT. What are the specs on the stoptech kit?

I know what you mean regards the wedding budget, I'm going through the same thing!

I have a set of VXR calipers going cheap if your interested. But you will need to cobble together some disc's.

Cheers

Now how about a Monaro as a wedding car!

I looked at the stoptech kit. Given it was front only (see comments above from Greens) and it was circa £2k fitted it made little sense as a product compared to AP's.

Willwood are doing a 4,

and 6-pot kit. Found it recently on summitracing.com

the Wilwood kit suffers from a few problems with seized pads if I remember correctly if the car isn't used on a daily basis. Had a chat with LSV about them one day as a possible "cheap" alternative and although they will work for some people they didn't suit my use of the car.

Unless things have changed most Willwood calipers do not have dust seals on the pistons, fine for track and race applications but for road use about as much use as a chocolate tea pot, especially on British roads with all the salt and crap the authorities throw down. The pistons WILL seize in the bores leading to rebuilds or at worst new calipers so in the end not worth saving a few quid !!

I don't personally see any point trying to save a few quid, the APs are well proven and reasonabley priced, it's where my money will be going.
