Another Monaro owner
Discussion
Another Monaro owner...............well almost, I will collect an 07 VXR in a weeks time.
It's been a few pages now since anybody discussed exhausts/re-maps in any great detail so I thought I would bring it up again. As most people have discovered, the standard car is not the noisiest sounding V8 in the world so I am thinking about improving that.
I have had 2 quotes from repected tuners for Cat back exhaust, re-map and rip shifter. One price included a Miltek and the other a Wortec exhaust, the price difference between the 2 was nearly £600. It doesn't matter who they are but one will get my business.
I would like you good gentlemen who have either system or have experienced both systems to tell me what you think so I can make my mind up. (as many reviews as possible please)i.e. what the noise is like at idling, is there any resonance at certain revs, do they get annoying. Is one system louder than another, is one worth more than the other...............I'm sure you all get my drift.
One final question, when the stock exhaust is removed, is it in pieces or one long exhaust as I would prefer to keep it just in case.
Any comments, good or bad will be appreciated.
Thanks
Steve

I replaced my standard CV8 exhaust with a Loudmouth Cat Back system designed for the Pontiac GTO, essentially the same car. Although it enables the car to breathe easier the vast jump in noise levels took a few days to get used to. Big grins initially, then found a gently gently approach was appreciated around home streets (This system has twin cherry bombs).
The standard exhaust will separate into two parts after the joint behind the cats. I also kept the original "just in case".

I did all of this homework before purchasing my car back in September 05. But in my honest opinion, the Miltek and Wortec catbacks are like chalk and cheese. I have known two owners who have had the Miltek fitted, to be dumb struck in the difference between the two, and having heard both cars and initially driving Caspy's car I knew where my money was going to be spent. Have loved it ever since.
AS ever its horses for courses and money aside, one will definately appeal to you more than the other. The Wortec is brash and addictive, the Miltek seems a little to shy. But this is only MY opinion.
Enjoy the car and enjoy the upgrades

Thats my worry, whilst I don't want to wake the neighbours every morning (I go to work @ 6.30) I am worried about the sound of the Milteks. I have had 2 fitted before on S4 Audi's and didn't think they made much difference other than the larger outlets.
Anybody had any experience of the electronic switchable Wortec, i.e. if it was turned off before starting the engine, is it quieter when you start the beast running again and on tickeover? or is it just certain rev ranges.
Keep the replies coming lads
Thanks so far
Steve
Having heard both the Miltek and Wortec systems I think the Miltek is a truer V8 sound as opposed to a more Ferrari sounding Wortec at revs. Your choice, both are great but both will get you attention. I agonised about what to do and finally did nothing as I was concerned about the early morning starts.
I have the miltek with headers fitted, its a glorious sound at revs and certainly isnt shy
It is still quiet in the cabin which is a huge bonus for me on distance runs but still turns heads and sounds nice on chat but then which ever kit anyone has they will be happy with it over standard

I have regular early morning starts here, anywhere between 5 and 7am, and have not had a single complaint, only compliments. And my neighbours aren't exactly ya chavtastic type.
We have also been known to leave much earlier for tunnel runs and various events, but neighbours dont have an issue. Never had an issue with the police, they just ask for a quick blip and drive on.
With the headers/cats/catback set up, the neighbours have said they can hear me driving up the 331 and that is over a mile from where we live.

Here's the volume figures for the electronic switchable jobbie.

All I need now is switchable for the 2004 model. Please Paul........
I have the wortec upgrade on my 07, not strictly by choice as that is what the supplying dealer offered with the car. I'am personally happy with the sound that eminates from the rear, and the noise generated in the cabin, I know exactly where you are coming from with the tiresome noise that some exhuasts produce, hell i have just stepped out of a TVR cerbera!!!
Wortec exhausts come in various guises, mine just have two large bore pipes running for amd aft with a small resonator right on the point of exit, I am still running her in at the moment, but somehow i just know that i am going to be very happy with the choice.
Enjoy your car, at the moment i just can't stop wanting to drive mine, a feeling that i have not had with any other car for a very long time, i have had many cars, but have never owned a car like this.

We have got the Electronic Bypass Wortecs on our 05 CV8, it is louder and throatier in both settings, when in 'silenced' mode it is noticably quieter than loud mode but is louder than standard. Dad leaves for work between 5:30-7:00 every morning so this was the only option for him.
Cabin noise in silenced mode isnt noticably different to standard and there is a louder drone when the loud button is enabled.
The best thing i can suggest is have a listen to cars which have any combination of the 2 fitted. An ideal opportunity to do this would be at Rockingham next weekend as there should be a wide selection of Monaros attending as part of the VXR meet.
ETA. When loud mode is disabled it is quieter across the rev range and when you start it.

Switchable Wortec fitted - very good - If you operate the switch before you start the car with the ignition on it takes immediate effect. Have to say I leave it on loud for 99% of the time. Useful to be able to switch it down when-
1) stopped by BIB
2) when passing animals
3) Early morning starts at home
Go for a Wortec, you won't look back.

Pardon the pun, but that SOUNDS like a great idea. I know this is the case with most extras we fit to cars, but would the car be worth any more when you come to sell it. Anybody had any experience ?.
I think the Electonic switchable Wortec is around £2.5k which is fair amount of dosh, the Wife will have to spend a few more nights on the streets me thinks.

I collect the car the day before the Rockingham meet so I will try and get over. Failing that, if anybody lives near Northamptonshire and has a Miltek or Wortec and wants to drop by so I can have a listen, I will lay on pint or two
I'v got a Wortec fitted and love it. I don't think its obscene (spelt awesome...) until you rev it up. I usually leave the estate on tickover or thereabouts - don't need to use more revs/speed than that on an estate with loads of little kids about anyway.
I live in Wellingborough, if you want to it hear before you buy one, give me a ring if you want Phone number E-mailed to you.

Thanks for the offer John, e-mail and a pint of beer is winging it's way to you

Aww, I'll get all embarassed now...
Glad you liked it. Forgot to mention, there is a quiter option available on the Wortec system. The interchangable (small) silencer boxes come with the system, and you can change them at will. Mine are still gathering dust in the shed, so I don't actually know how much quieter the system is if they are fitted!

I've got one with a Milltek (came with it 2nd hand so not too sure of which it is, but it was 1800 pounds so i assume sport cat plus re-map)it's very quiet at part throttle and pretty loud at full and has the benefit of no drone. However having heard BO55's Wortec would definately get that.
Milltek is a very woofly V8 sound which is nice but the Wortec sounds a lot more hard edged. Ah well I'm happy that it still pops bangs, not on the over-run though, only changing down at medium/high revs
