ARRRRRGGGHH!! HELP URGENTLY NEEDED!

My VXR6 is pretty much a sunny day toy only, so often goes long-ish periods of scratching the door to get out. Went to get it out last weekend and it wouldn't start, (flat battery) didn't have time or equipment to charge it then, (don't keep my car at home)so left it 'till this morning. Just went with a charger, leads etc to juice her up and she's completely dead! remote key won't open the doors! there's no alarm/immobiliser lights on the dash and key won't operate manually either!.......HOW THE HELL DO I GET IN?!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear you couldn't get driving it when you wanted to. Don't know if it works on this car yet as luckily I haven't been faced with the problem but you could try the method that works on most BMW and Audi's. Passenger door hold up the handle as if opening then put in your key and turn either left or right and you will feel a purely mechanical turning of the lock and the passenger door should open and then you can pop your bonnet.
It might work and it would be great if all car manufacturers did this.

Thanks for the quick response, I'll go try but have a horrible feeling the passanger side is parked too close to the garage wall to get in, it's hard enough getting in and out of the drivers side and I'm parked left of center in the garage. Don't really want to have to think of jacking up the car and rolling it out on the jack but may have to. Anybody else got any suggestions?

I remembered seeing this on the US LS2 Forum. I had a quick search for you and basically they agree with what the guys just said above....

It will open with the key, it is just that you have to turn in farther then normal to open it manually. With the battery working the key will unlock the door if you turn it enough to hit the electronic switch, if the battery is dead or disconnected you have to keep going passed the electronic switch to the manual lever to open it. It has a bit more resistance to pop it open, but it will work.

LS2 forum is quite good since there are a lot more GTO's that there are Monaros, so they will have come across things more.

Can't thank you guys enough for such a quick response. I did have vague memories of hearing that trick before but just wasn't 100% sure. I did force the key a little this morning but just wasn't sure how hard to try but now I think about it, when I last heard of this method, I understand you have to turn almost key-breakingly hard! I'll just finish my coffee and go for another attack! Will post results.

I should have gone out and looked. didn't realize they had done away with the passenger lock. my new audi has gone a step farther as well with no pop up snibs on the door letting the world know you forgot to lock it.
i'm glad the old manual trick still works though as I don't drive mine every day.Well, just went and tried again, stuck the key in the lock and began to genlty but firmly force it,....then pumped it,.....then forced a bit harder and pumped the door,.....then forced, pumped, twisted, lifted (farted!) until the key was just beginning to think about snapping and a tiny bead of nervous sweat appeared on my forehead. Then kind of realised that in the two years of ownership, I'd NEVER used the key in the door! so decided to try CLOCKWISE, and..er...... "VOILA!" actually opened quite easily with a positive metallic click, (Doh!) Most keys lock clockwise and unlock counter-clockwise, not this one! Thanks to all again and definately like the sound of the solar charger as the "Bat cave", (o.k. my parents' garage) doesn't have any power.

You're right, the common sense thing IS to try the key in the door which is EXACTLY what I did, but unlike my other vehicle which does not have central locking and can be opened with a flick of the fingers with yer little pinkie hanging out, shifting deadlocks without power puts up a lot of resistance. Initially it was solid BOTH ways I just wasn't prepared to snap the key off on the lock just for fun! Fair enough?
