How fast must you be going to do......

One hell of a crash but the car was definitely cut in half to get people out by the looks...which kind of implies at least one occupant survived.
Survived the initial impact at least!
I was shocked not to see any blood, I take it those two white sheets are covering bodies?
very old story now but still worth seeing
2nd pic down where you see the two halfs of the car, the rear is next to a tree with a lot of blood at the base of the tree. You see someones body under a whilte sheet. Look closely at the rear wheel of the car near the tree. See that white round thing covered up, where there is blood on the tree...

It does make you think

from googling 'Esmoriz' off the ambulance, could be Portugal
probably rushing to get to a barn full of cars he'd just heard about on the internet
Imaging the disappointment if he got there to discover it was nothing but another repost!
As a retired 'plod' and having attended many fatal accidents, if you hit a tree at any speed, then usually you have had your chips!
Whilst this car clearly impacted at speed,it looks like this one hit a tree sideways before disintigrating. All cars have little strength in side impact (look how close the seats are)and are meant to have max strength in frontal impacts. Having said that, many impacts result at speeds that are significantly less than the driver was initially travelling at, simply because most hit the brakes first! Many of the normal accident damage that all of us see on a day to day basis, occurs at a frightenly low speed. If you told me that this car hit a tree sideways at 60mph, this is the sort of damage that I would expect, but I would think that it was going a bit faster than that. However I don't think that any reliance can be placed on what is showing on the speedo.
The last lesson is one that was given to me by a police driving instructor many years ago, but is still relevant - if you lose it and have a choice of hitting a gate or going through a hedge, take the gate because hedgerows can 'hide' small trees, and even a small tree will cause a significant or even fatal impact.Gates disintegrate quite easily, and dont often hide ditches, which are another problem in themselves.
Sorry about that, but I believe that if your number is up, then thats it, BUT, if you are involved in a serious impact, but walk away, then it was not your time to die.....

you notice the airbag in the steering wheel never even deployed - car was ripped apart before it had time to activate.
having hit a "small" tree at around 20mph going sideways in the Monaro I can testify how tough the buggers are - damn near trashed the side of the car and damage to the tree - 1 branch snapped. I was just lucky there werent any branches came through the window.
Hedgerows also not good - father went through one after a spin on diesel covered road, hit ditch on other side and flipped onto the roof in the middle of a field - out of sight of the road thanks to the hedgerow. Again lucky to walk away.
Can certainly understand why they are going on just now about the dangers of country lanes and roads and why so many people get killed or seriously injured on them.

Wise words JJ.
I grew up in Somerset and when we learnt to drive you were well aware of the dangers after milking time (fresh cow dung is as bad as ice) and ending up hitting a tree orvstout hedgerow and as bad ending up inverted in ditches that allowed the car to fit nice and tight with the doors closed and no way to access the poor sods trapped inside.
saw the aftermath of several deaths like that...
