I am interested in having a go at drifting.....
I've found a company offering 1 day courses at silverstone, where you can use you own car or one of theirs (mx5).
The question is to you guys that have done it before, how well does the monaro stand up to this sort of abuse ?
Obviously the tyres will take some wear.....
or should I have a go in their MX5 first time.
I have never experienced the monaro at the limit of its grip, and am keen to feel a bit of a slide
Regards Neil

A load of us did this in January, courtesy of CptSideways (member of Pistonheads).

Some used their own car, others used the school and some started on the school and transfered to their own.

It was a hoot, that's for sure

I've been to the same place (I think). The MX5 is a breeze to drift. Easy to Power-over at low speeds so you can build up confidence and then take liberties. It only needed the occasional slow circuit to cool down and we only burst one tyre.

A couple of people there took their own cars out at various stages. All were bigger, with more grip and so needed much more encouragement to get the back out. All of a sudden the tarmac area seemed small...

I'd suggest paying the extra to use their car which you can beat the living daylights out of and then if you really want to play, see if you can take yours out at the end (pump up tyres, get diff friction oil checked, make sure the boot and interior is empty, check all fluid levels, pray to the god of cone evasion.......)

Ask the chaps though - quite a few took their 'Ros out to play.

Hey i recently did a day with a member of this forum at bruntingthorpe proving ground he took his monaro and we did a day of track work and car controll. The monaro is very simple to drift and once you get the technique right you can hold a slide as long as you like!!!!! i also have worked with the company i think you have seen and that is a great day and you learn a lot! if you want to email me at samloughnan@hotmail.com if you have any questions i hope i can help.

Hi everyone

Yes I'd love to organise another day for you guys, Silverstone is certainly a good option though there is also a new venue possibly available next to Donnington called Drift Central, the biggest expanse of lovely smooth tarmac you will ever see.

I'll enquire to costs & availability for both, I assume a date within the next couple of months would be ideal. 20-25 cars would be ideal maybe more at drift central.

Let me know what sort of dates you'd like, it should be similar costs to the last event.

Just on my way to Knockhill now so will be back early next week when I'll be on the case.
