Has anyone fitted those headlight deflectors used when driving abroad? If so, where's the best place to get them?

Halfords, ferry terminal or on board the boat, don't take a Road Angel though, if so & caught with one (even in the boot) they will ask you to reverse over it!

I don't bother with them. Used them once but I never managed to get all the glue off the lenses.
Actually, the Monaro lights are so cr@p you probably don't even need them.

Cheers. Do Halfords have a kit specific for the Monaro?

smiler I've looked and couldnt find one. Leave it until you get to Dover and in the travel shop get them there but don't apply them. Carry them in the car in case you get stopped, if you are mostly driving the motorways (at night) I wouldnt bother sticking them on. If you do have to stick them on just apply one to the left light - did this on the 350z which also has projector lights and it worked, I could still see too.

Do make sure you carry flourecent vests for you and any passengers, a safety triangle too - legal requirement. Also ensure that if you wear glasses you have a spare set in the car.

if speeding, do it away from calais they light to catch people going to/from the ports.

where you of to? We're off to the south in August hopefully!

OK thanks. I'm going on the Eurotunnel so dunno about how good the travel shop thingy is. Do they actually have them for a Monaro?

probably not

they are all generic anyway. You'll get 2 circular blobs - before taking the backing off one turn your lights on and find the location that will cut out the light turning upwards and just stick it there, you'll end up with a level light beam. You can add deflectors to tip the right hand light up but its a waste to be honest

Bought a kit from Halfords. I'll leave them in the packet unless I need them.

Black electrician tape does the same job.

€100 fine if they catch you without them.
They wait at the motorway toll booths looking at your lights, the fines need to be paid on the spot.

I risk using just black tape

I bet that they don't even sell a kit in France for French drivers coming to the UK!!!

Need to be aware that electrical tape can possibly create hotspots and crack a lens or discolour it because it absorbs heat.

Never done the lens things. Usually have the GB sticker although the number plate on the Monaro has GB on it so don't need to worry now.

Have been stopped 4 times for speeding in France on the autoroutes. Twice at a place called Bethune which is only an hour south of Calais on the A16 - I've finally managed to learn and now engage criuse control as I get close.......On the Spot fine of around £90 both times for around 100mph. Didn't have the cash the second time and they kindly looked after our Passports and Driving Licences while we went to the local shops to the cash point they directed us to.....

Sorry - can't get the link to work - you'll have to paste it all in to your browser......Doh!

Further south I've not noticed too many speed traps, but north of Paris, and the closer you get to Calais, the more they set up. Easy targets - British folk on their way to/from holiday on those lovely empty french roads..

I fitted the halford ones last year (you just use the round part - tear the other part off), positioning was a pain but not as hard as getting the crap off the lens after 6 weeks away. Took about 2 months of gradually getting it off. All off with no marks though. Will put some polish on them next time first and if they fall off then they fall off.
