New diff and brakes
Discussion
Bit of a shock, took the ro in for a recall today, (6.0 vxr), and at the same time, i told them that i was concerned about a slight knock in slow traffic from the rear that i have experianced a few times. I also told them that i was getting a slight judder on braking through the steering coloumn.
Reply back from main dealers this afternoon, and they told me that the diff was done for, so they would had to factory order one, and that the brakes and discs were also in need of replacement, but he would confirm the latter tomorrow morning.
Ok, so the diff is under warrenty, but when i asked about the brakes, he told me i would probably have to pay for them, jeez, ive only done 7000 miles, and to be honest, the majority of it is very modest dual carriageway driving.
The question i put to you all, is, has anybody else suffered diff problems, and what is the usual life expectency for the front discs and pads?
Thanks in advance guys
Paul

I'll be very surprised if the diff needs replacing, just needs an oil change! Plenty of threads on this one!
Yh thanks for the reply, and i have read with interest some of these threads, but its in the hand of my local Vauxhall VXR Dealer(central Midlands) because of the warrenty issues, so i will mention it to them tomorrow.
Thanks again
Paul

On this subject, how much was the redline friction modifier again? My diff has gotten more chatty recently (warmer weather I assume) so I could probably do with topping it up a bit.
(I also need to get a syringe at it's bloody messy trying to use a funnel!)

I'd suggest some new pads (if the discs are still thick enough and not badly scored), and an oil change! A diff should last the life of the car. Knocks or clunks can also be caused by a bad CV joint in the driveshafts if the oil change doesn't sort it.
It will also clunk if the limited slip is working properly. Fresh oil and correct amount of modifier should fix it.

I'll have to let you know, im at home at the moment.
Re filling, just jack the back as high as poss then use the squeezy bottle it comes in. stops it floating off the top of the oil already in there.

Had the call from Vauxhall to tell me that the diff is done for and the front discs and pads are also in a very poor state. But he then went on to say that it was all covered under warrenty, so im a bit releived about that.
I cant understand though why the discs and pads should be shot, afterall, honestly, the majority of my driving is 7 miles to work and 7 miles home, 4 miles each way being dual carriageway. Havent done any track days, so its a bit of a puzzle to me.
Anyway, there is no expense, so all is well

Go to a vet and ask for a horse syringe. ps take your wife or girlfreind with in case they think you`re a pervert.
