I have just purchased a Vauxhall Monaro its a 04 in red.

I have a question , on tickover it makes a faint kind of bumping noise, the car runs like a dream though. Is this normal? Its probably me just being paranoid.

Thanks in advance

Its when sitting at traffic lights for instatance. It like a bumping noise, it only lasts for a second then its fine and then does it till you pull away and there is no problems. I was told that was the way these engines ran. does anyone else's monaro make strange noises on tickover ?

Almost impossible to diagnose without hearing it as could be many things, most of which are nothing to worry about. On the basis 'if it aint broke dont fix it' I wouldn't bother, but if you are really worried take it to a specialist such as Monkfish or Greens.

I own a couple of HSVs not Monaros but similar () and have driven several Monaros. Have a loan Demo Monaro from Monkfish currently too (for last week). All make different noises on tickover....you name it they do it. Big V8 = more noise than 2 litre buzz boxes. As I said, if worried get it checked by a specialist just in case symptoms of something serious but frankly if it drives OK, doesn't use oil or water etc I wouldn't worry.

You're going to give us a better and more vivid description than "bumping" I'm afraid.

I presume you're not on a wind-up?

Dont forget that V8s do make a few different noises to your usual 4 cylinder euro/jap cars. I also sometimes think, what was that, but its fine -lol, if in any doubt, pop it down to your local specialist, just to be on the safe side.

Phil - mines an 04 (red!) but I've not had the problems you're going through...where are you based? I've only had a 'ticking' from the cams on start-up (before they get up to operating temp/pressure) after a lengthy (3-4 months) storage period...I just take it easy 'til the noise goes! Other that that, I would go with the advice as previously posted on here!

Its almost like the car is missing a beat, i contacted the last owner and he says he had it at vauxhall and they said it was fine , it only does it when the car is warm.

check the ht caps, push them all home (8) using the black rubber part and not the metal heat shield. Had a similar problem on mine after doing some sideways action. One of the caps had come off.

Do you know the cars history, has it had any modifications, a slightly hotter cam can cause lumpy running. That said they all miss the odd beat. If you`d like to listen to mine happy to hook up with you anytime you like. (I`m near Farnborough)
