Bit of a silly one really, but the battery has gone in my key, to open doors etc etc, not a problem i thought, use the spare and get a replacement battery. Doh- Vauxhall dont sell batteries for the key, apparently, they dont replace them.

So, picture the scenario, im standing at the parts counter of the VXR Vauxhall dealership asking for a couple o quid battery, the very nice chap behind the counter tells me, " oh no sir, you throw the key in the bin, you pay us £45 for a new one, and then book the car in for 1/2 hr labour to program it" how impressed do you think i was?????

I think you keep the metal key part, just replace the head. You can get them off ebay in Oz probably way cheaper than here.

Then you just need to sync them with the BCM in the car so they work the security system.

Your lucky some people have had to pay £75!

had a similar experence except teh VX dealer said come yes we do replacement batteries sir no problme. Then waited 45 mins while they tried to get teh key apart which included one chap saying they usually shatter!

So asked the obvious are they not meant to come apart for battery replacement? Ummmm not sure...
Well how many have you done? Well 1 actually and it shattered so we had to get a new key fob anyway.....
Let me ring VX technical support in Luton.....

Sheeeesh.

Still a quick call to ukhsv and as uusal he had the right answer and all was sorted as he explained how the system workedd and I coudl drive my car anyway and get home to collect spare....

BARGAIN!

I've just had my keys stolen, and it's cost me £900 to have the locks changed.
Apparantley it's not just a case of new locks...you can't delete the original keys from the cars memory! so they have to change the Body Control Unit Module, which means £900 instead of £600

Just as well my insurance company has offered to chip-in £100 rolleyes

I thought you could get new keys based on the VIN?

Mind you you wouldnt want the others floating unknown around the place.
