I am considering a Monaro for my next purchase and currently it is top of the list.

Can anyone help out with a few questions I have.

1. Anything to look for as weak points - have read a couple of past threads, but there doesn't seem too much of concern. Are Monaros as mechanically robust as all that ? What about clutches, shafts and boxes etc ?

2. Is there a web site that details the MY dates and specs? I have the general drift on the engine upgrades but is it all posted anywhere ?

3. Is it worth the extra money going for the 6.0 VXR ? I do a highish mileage so am expecting a depreciation hit, so not sure if the extra spend will be worth it ?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Don't do it. I have got a very distinct phobia now about visting petrol stations.

On the plus side I am wondering what the vmax is in 5th and 6th after finding 4th's

Personally I have recently bought a pre-reg 6.0 VXR and covered about 3500 miles in 6weeks I use it daily to comute to the big smoke from portsmouth. Depreciation - well its always going to be there on a car of this nature, but who cares if you aren't planning on selling? As for mpg about 25mpg up and down the A3.

There is some debate between 6.0 / 5.7 but as i haven't driven 5.7 cant really comment.

Thanks for the link BigNige, it was useful.

On the mpg issue if I can get 25mpg on a motorway run I will be very happy. I am currently doing 5k miles in a weekend toy (at 22mpg) and 15K commuting, mainly motorway (at 40mpg) in a diesel hatchback. All things considered the numbers say it will be cheaper to go to one car if I can get 25mpg ish on the motorway, so I am reconciled to that. At least I get to do more miles in something more interesting than a Nissan Diesel !!
