Wortec VXR8 upgrade prices ?????????????
Discussion
Sorry Wortec but May has come and almost gone and it would be nice to know some idea of pricing on your fantastic upgrades so that all the lads and lassies buying the VXR8 can budget for the quick bits and bods, any news yet.????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Right back in the office for a few hours so here is an update on the VXR8 products..................
We are holding off publishing finished prices at the moment because customer cars are not arriving until mid/late July so
we have taken the opportunity to test some other options on certain setups.
The first kit in the range (not sure on a name yet) will consist of Cold air intake, Filter, Cat back exhaust and Tune.
The Cold air intake will use a large cone filter mounted inside an air box of similar design to the original. We have
gone down this route as opposed to other possibilities because we wanted a system which if you were to upgrade to
a supercharger the CAI will still fit so continuing our no waste upgrade philosophy. Other advantages of the our CAI
is it keeps the filter at a safe hight above the road to not allow fatal water ingress and it looks OEM.
The Cat back is finished and apart from signing off the tail pipe design is ready to ship........
Once again the system can have two sound levels and can be changed manually (poss DIY job) or can be upgraded to an electronic switch. (price is around that of the Monaro)
The Exhaust is once again Marine grade stainless and mandrel bent in 2.5 and 3 inch tube incorporating the usual Wortec sound enhancements............The system is not a old school flabby V8 sound but a more performance orientated Italian V8 sound which is in keeping with the VXR8's style. There is no drone from the system and the tail pipe design will be oval or twin round (or maybe a choice?)
As the new version of the LS2 is used in the VXR8 a new tune has been produced here in the UK to enhance the Wortec upgrades.
The next kit up will add headers and sports cats to the above pac..........................
Headers will be of a similar design to our current UK made Monaro ones with a couple of changes to suit the new engine and will include 100 cell platinum coated cats.
On the Supercharger front Wortec will offer a "pac" using the latest Eaton rotor assembly fitted into the Harrop HH122 charger.
This new charger has be chosen because it runs very very cool and is quieter than previous models, its losses are less than before so more power!!!!!! Oh and it moves enough air for our 7.0ltr engine upgrade (more on that later) so it is once again at the bottom of its performance envelope.
We have be testing on cars in Australia and the UK (and a well known Monaro) all with great results. Prices will start under 6000 pounds fitted inc VAT
Suspension at this stage is confined to lowering springs and we will look at coil overs later when we can get time for endurance testing.......
Last of all the RIPPY is back and still up to standard!!!!! the VXR8 gear change is much better than the old model BUT the Rip Shift makes it better.
I will add some more meat to the bones after the middle of June when dealer cars are due.

I will keep the pac results quiet for now.........BUT here is a link to a dyno sheet to show how much better the HH122 is over LS112 (please note this is on a Monaro the VXR8 results are a little better)

The new CAI for Monaro will be available soon (poss next week or two).......
Again we have chosen not to stock the over the radiator type because of various servicing and fit issues.
The Monaro unit replaces the OEM box with a sealed (engine side) box with a large cone filter and pipe work that fits to N/A and S/C cars.

If I'm reading that right: 556hp at the wheels, +73 = 629hp est. at the flywheel! That's about 350bhp/tonne!
Lordy.
John
It has been a long day so I am probably reading this wrong but I can't help feeling disappointed at the Monaro numbers.
LS112 Harrop running at 12psi seems to show around 500rhhp. Assuming 35bhp losses through tyres this would equate to around 465rwhp. My own non-intercooled 5psi setup dyno'd at 405rwhp.
So is the gain around 60bhp for adding an IC and another 7psi or have I completely read this wrong?
