Anyone got any views on Monaro VXR 6.0 prices? Are they holding - falling - going to fall more when the VXR8 arrives?

Fairly typical with cars it is simply a question of trying to manage the rate of loss (if that is important you)

Will be interesting to see hat happens when VXR8 hits the streets and road UK reports start to appear.

As long as the motoring press do not keep presenting it as the new Monaro (which will be quite hard to avoid IMO)in theory it should not really do much harm as the Ro will probably appeal to a different set or at least the VXR8 will have a wider appeal because it is 4 door.

What wil be interesting will be to see the resale values of any cars particularly modded ones that appear after being PX'd for VXR8's compared to going rate over the last few months as the network Q cars went through teh system

Either way modded 6.0VXR's still represent great value for what you get IMHO.

I disagree, see June/July edition of "Used Car Buyer" should still be on shelves nice 4 page article.

They quote "Network Q now has cars from under 16k, if you want a VXR expect to pay at least 20k"

I recall a cv8 more than a year changing hands at less than 13k, and my own VXR was significantly less than 20k 8 months ago. So prices definatly are not in freefall anymore like they have been over the previous two years.

For now I believe lack of availability vrs demand has stabalised prices, though as milages creep up a few cheaper cars will be found in the classifieds.

I agree, I think most people get the retail mixed up with what the seller gets, if you buy a car for say 25K put your name in the log book drive it off the forecourt and then say to yourself, I don't like this car, turn around and take it straight back to the retailer, chances are he will only give you 20K for it! So is the value of the car 25K or 20K ?? at the end of the day a cars value is only what someone is prepared to pay for it.

Exactly. And if there were any low mileage, or new, Black VXR cars left they'd fetch more money too - I keep getting asked about Black VXRs.

Some dealers are advertising the same pre reg car for 500 pounds more than a few months ago, and I think they`ll get it as a lot of people sat on their hands too long and missed the mass sell off at the beginning of the year waiting for the price to drop.

Of course the QUICKsilver cars seem to have stabilised at about 15-16K. Having bought 2 in the last 3 months, both 04 CV8's same colour. One with lower mileage, but slightly worse condition.

It might depend on any fuel consumption legislation that is implemented. V8's were made worthless during the 70's oil crisis.

Had my car serviced at Bellingers yesterday, noticed they had a Black pre-reg 56 plate VXR for £26,995, bit of a bargain I reckon.

If it is such a bargain on an old plate, why is it still there? You try taking that one back to the garage a couple of days later. Get a grip lads, car prices go down, not up.

Bet it won`t be there long. Like you say its worth what someone`s prepared to pay for it and if its the last one in the country...........
Car`s can go up in value, its all down to how rare and demand.
What a dealer gives you for a car has no bearing on its real value cos he`d give you two and six for a car worth two million if he could.

Who cares what its worth? Having just returned from a blast tonight, it's worth a millon dollars! 5000+ revs still sounds stunning (wortec exhaust..)!

No. A value is what someone is prepared to pay, so by definition a dealer giving you a price is a real value.

You may be able to find someone else (another dealer or private buyer) who is prepared to pay more, but if that was easy the dealer would presumably be able to do it (they advertise on Pistonheads too).

"The" real value depends on the effort you are prepared to go to find a buyer, or hold onto it until it sells at a price you can accept..

IMO, the main thing which impacts used values is "availability of something better/newer/shinier". For instance, I was looking at F360 asking prices yesterday. Theres a MASSIVE price difference between standard versions and Challenge Stradale. Reasons? Limited supply of CS versions and the fact that the F360 has been superceded by F430 which has no CS version (yet AFAIK), so there's high demand for the F360CS.

For Monaro values, there are several factors. There has obviously been limited demand for these cars since there is unsold stock. I don't see that changing - the appeal for a 90s-looking big V8 coupé is likely to remain limited. Maybe once the price drops to a certain level it will stabilise, because the cars will find a new market amongst people who previously found them unaffordable. But a big factor will be availability of used VXR8s. Whilst I understand that for some people coupés have some magic attraction, the VXR8 appears seems to be a generally more appealing proposition (more practical, powerful, modern looking and better brakes and handling).

So, I'd guess that nearly-new Monaro VXRs will take a bit of a hit when the VXR8 appears, older ones will depreciate gradually for some time, and then maybe a big drop off when VXR8s hit the used market in numbers.

Of course, the most reliable way to limit depreciation is to buy an older car.

Just my 2p, and if I was any good at predicting markets I wouldn't need to work for a living.

Some good points there John.

Personally, and as mentioned above I really couldn't care if my car was worth £1k! It still turns heads and makes me smile every time I go out. I was trying to think the other day of what car I would replace the Monaro with and couldn't really come up with a decent list.

In general I do not like 4 door cars so that rules out the VXR8. A lot of the cars out there with similar or better performance are not practical for day to day driving, I originally liked the idea of a Noble but having followed one recently watching it dodging potholes and uneven roads I realised I couldn't live with it.

To me the Monaro is priceless because I would only sell it for something better and for me there isn't anything else out there. Before you all laugh, I am not saying the Monaro is perfect or the best car out there, it is just that for me it is the best all rounder for my needs.

Big(ish) capacity N/A coupé, seem like reasonable money now. No rear seats though.
