Cosworth Owner
Discussion
Hi to all i am a Sierra cosworth owner(350bhp 29psi boost 2wd) and have the blue oval running through my veins.
I am looking for something new to excite me as my beloved cossie does, unfortunatley ford now only makes front drive shopping cars so i am looking elsewhere.I want something rear drive or 4wd and Monaro has been pushed my way as a possible will this car give me the daily adrenaline buzz like a cossie does.It appears to tick all boxes that i want but it has to be my daily driver not just a track day tool not bothered about fuel econ, can you turn off traction control, what are they like to work on,do they handle standard or do they need Hsv suspension.
P.s My brothers boss is mates with Aussie touring car legend Mark Skaiffe

Hi!
Not driven a Cossie, so can't directly compare them. Had an Impreza STi before. The Monaro offers a more 'grown up' excitement than the Impreza - less hair on fire and more relentless acceleration....
Somehow it feels less intense than the Scooby, less frenetic. I'm guessing it will be the same with the Cossie.
One thing that it will provide though - again like the Cossie I'm sure - is plenty of sideways action. Second gear in the dry is easy to get it out - first gear is a given. Not really tried in 3rd as I'm going too fast by then and I really don't think I'm that good a driver!
You can turn off T/C. It isn't a good T/C anyway, so you can get the back out a good 3 feet with it turned on - without it you will have a real hoot!!
Mine is a daily driver - I do about 1,500 miles/month. Overall I rate it better than the Impreza.
Hope that helps....

Thanks very much. One last point which model is the best to buy and is there any to avoid
I don't think there's any of the 4/5 models to avoid, the most desirable would probably be one of the dealer approve VXR500's only 15 in existance!
That aside I reckon the 04 MY VXR is the best model bit biased I'm afraid! But it is the leased compromised car, i.e fuel tank where Holden wanted it to be so lower centre of gravity and a proper boot. Also comes with tuby style manifolds as standard compared to the cast version on all other model's which is one less mod to buy. And its the rarist other than the VXR500 only 60 in the uk.
Getting ready to take the heat on this one!!

stumpy its a completley didnt type of drive mate
i used to be a 3dr cosworth driver for many many years from when i lived back there. you have even heard of me, popeye from passionford
sometimes i miss my old 3dr as it was a machine for what it was, but then i love the lazy feel of the ole 5.7 v8, i have 05 a vz ss ute over here. mines quite a simple car really with a filter , cat-back and tune but its surprising how quick you are really going.
what i am saying is basically i have always had RS cars and would i go back to one, hell yes,BUT only a weekend car like i used one before , the ute is still my toy as such other here but is a far better car thats quick'ish and much more at home to be used every day

I've had a 3 door cosworth for 19 years, and still can't find a car like it for "go kart appeal",my vxr Monaro is a bigger heavier car and feels it,but is a good daily drive.Point to point on twisty bits,I get there quicker by Cossie, long motorway trips and the Monaro holds the cards.
Which one do I prefer?.............Both!!!!!!!!!!
