Hi everyone,

I'm looking at buying a Vauxhall Monaro but was wondering if anyone can give me advice of what to look for and are there any common problems or faults?

I've had a look at the FAQ's and several other posts but still have quite a few questions which I will ask later.

1, With the 2004 car were different bumpers fitted depending on the model?
2, I've read so many different figures on reviews etc so can anyone tell me roughtly what MPG they actually get?
3, What is the 0-60 and top speed of the non VRX 2004 car?

I've only ever seen 1 Monaro and 1 HSV GTS on the road and while on my way to view a Monaro yesterday I saw a black Monaro on the A13 near LakesideGraysThurrock which I had to move out of the right hand lane for. Was that anyone from here?

prior to a wortec tune the best fuel economy i got was around 23mpg now around 26mpg. In traffic to work and around town I get 17mpg. When given the beans expect 14mpg; others on the track have stated that it can go into low single figures.

I havnt seen any published figures for 0-60 or top speed for the 2004 CV8 but it must be just sub 6 seconds i guess. With a tune it is below 5.5 seconds

Plenty of threads on here commenting on top speeds (obviously on the track or where it is legal) it is above 155mph which in most peoples eyes quick enough.

Hi Tony,

Just re bumpers, the 2004 models were available as CV8 and VXR models, the VXR had different bumpers and bodykits than the CV8 (HSV compared the Holden modelling). So two styles of bumpers depending on CV8 and VXR.

It all changed again for the 05 models (small boots) but my choice.

Cheers
Steven

Where in Essex are you Tony?

I'm in Southend.
I'm sure we could hook up for you to have a drive of mine if you wanted.

I get 12-14mpg around town and 22-26 on a run.
0-60 is about 5.5 seconds - the cars have quite high gearing.

The only fault with the silver and black ones is that they seem extremely fast compared to the red ones.

Thanks for the advice so far guys, it sounds as though the MPG is a little better then I expected and my confusion over the different bumpers has been cleared up.

Nige & Daz, thanks. I'm actually from Eastwood, just outside Southend. Nige I really appreciate the offer but think I'd rather have a drive of one at a dealers as I wouldn't be comfortable driving someones pride and joy. Thanks again for the offer though.

I'm looking at a CV8 in Braintree at the moment and if my parents agree to lend me the money I require I will be taking it for a test drive this week. I've just paid my parents back for my current car, so borrowing should be no problem and a lot less intrest then finance or a bank loan. I'll let you all know how I got on with the test drive.

Thanks everyone.

Eastwood, wow, you are probably about a mile from me mate.
I'm just near the hospital in Westcliff.

Get in touch when you're sorted and we can have a chinwag if you like.

Come on be fair, the red ones must have been in reverse gear lol
