Not a bad review. They mention the same suspension shudder/judder as Autocar, and aren't too kind about the handbrake design. But I can see their point:

Also, when you switch off the ESP, it isn't really off. Get too sideways and the system will slap you around the face with a bong and a tap of the ABS.
rolleyes Thats the VXR8 crossed off my list then.

Tom Ford says
"use fifth and sixth as overdrives or prepare to meet and greet your local plod. You will not go unnoticed in a VXR8, and you can't outrun a helicopter"

www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk says
".. The helicopter will cruise at 120 mph and has a 'dash' speed of 140 mph"

My question is, how long and straight is the road you are on?

How, do you need to do a Aborigines traction dance? wink

Seriously, I know Mercs can have theirs turned off (was on Fith Gear with Tiff in a stupid 4x4) but they wont tell you. What do you need to do?

I had a jag that your could turn traction control off but not the "ESP", whatever that was.
The topgear guys are probably talking about "Torque Management" which is an ECM controlled method of reducing driveline abuse.
(eg) If throttle is 100% and speed=0mph then reduce timing by x degree's.

This can be tuned out. Or at least reduced. The Auto's are especially prone to this as its not just the ECM that has torque management, but also the transmission controller. If you want the performance trans get the manual. The Auto's will go into limp mode if you take too much management out.

Interesting comment re the esp/traction control, I've got the auto and even with traction control on it will let you oversteer slightly. Its actually slightly looser to me than the old set up as in you can push further before it comes in to action, as for when its turned off, well I have never noticed it cutting in no matter how sideways you get.
Maybe Im not going fast enough but I've also never read any of the mags over here mention that this has been an issue. Maybe Mr Ford hadnt actally turned it OFF (this would nt surprise me in the least) but on the other hand maybe Vauxhall after asked for a slightly different ESP set up for some reason.

different markets def do get different set ups. Again going back to the Zed in Japan turning it off does turn it off but they dont have the same TC setup as the UK cars. Basically you can do burnouts in the jap but not UK even with it off. However doing track days in the Zed with it off you didnt even notice it but I never got to the point of no return.

This might be the cause of a lot of driveline shudder. Mr Torque management messing about with spark etc!
It can be killed with efilive etc. Simple click of the mouse will kill it. The pic is from a VE Holden ECM aka Vauxhall XVR8..

E.S.P. Electronic stability programme, got em on lotsa things these days. Most petrol tankers come with em, puts the brakes on the trailers if the sensors think your getting giddy in the corners.

I had the pleasure of being on the top gear show doing a peice with Mr Clarkson himself. I thought(and so did he) the VXR8 was a great car to drive and JC had no trouble in generating plenty of black smoke from the tyres.

Mine is due in July and I can't wait.
