I'm just putting together my emergency bits and pieces for going on the cannonball and thought I should bring spare brake fluid. does the newer VXR take dot4 or dot5 fliuid? also what oil grade does it use? Am I likely to wear out my pads if I do a few laps on our track day? does anyone know the part number from vauxhall for a replacement set front and rear?
is there anything else I should be wary of or to keep an eye on?

excellent stuff, thanks for that. I hadn't heard of 5.1 before hopefully means it stops better
and Jez even if I don't need help I might be looking for that private jet.

Well DOT 4 is pretty much as good. DOT 5 is silicone based and not compatible with most braking systems

I wouldn't mind comparing notes when you get pack. I am doing the Furball which might be a bit twisty for the Monaro where as the cannonball (as I understand) is more a motorway bash.

not a prob, haven't heard of the furball before. when does it head off? is it a mystery tour like cannonball or a preset route?

Aw just looked at the site, I didn't realise they did a Scandinavian tour. I'll have to get myself on that the next time they do it. Norway is just breath taking.

Dot 5.1 IS compatable with any normal system. It is ABS compatable too. You may be thinking of Dot 5 which is a silicone fluid.
Dot 4/600 or Super Dot 4 is the best that's available though(highest dry and wet boiling point).
