Hopefully somebody who knows more than me will join in... but as I understand it the programme that runs the auto reacts badly to addittional power and defaults to limp home mode.

Well, If your going to fit a twin turbo kit or any serious performance modification you will naturally uprade your tune accordingly, this map will also modify your transmission program and adjust the way the transmission responds/shift points etc to the increase in power.

I know my kits come with all necessary ECU upgrades auto trans included if required, helping your box shift harder and faster in response to the massive increase in torque, all decent product suppliers will supply this as standard I'm sure.
Whether or not you decide to strengthen your auto is entirely up to you, we have guys running 500+rwhp through standard box's run after run but I've seen box's blow behind stocko motors (as we all have) so go figure.

Don't let the fact you have an auto scare you off Turbo kits!!

I drove a rental Saab auto turbo fwd the other day - it nearly killed me....

Overtaking had a double lag.. one from the auto, then the turbo kicked in and the Saab tried to torque steer me into oncoming traffic. I managed to keep it under control, but it made me 'adjust' my driving style for that particular car.

I for one, like the control a manual/clutch gives and am willing to scarifice the auto box's ease of use.
