Does anyone else have problems with back pain in the 'Ro?

I'm getting really bad backache, it's like a sciatic pain that runs down my legs. It's definitely Monaro-related, if I don't use the car for a few days it goes away and as soon as I drive the car again it comes back - sometimes within 15 minutes. I've tried all sorts of different seat positions, but nothing helps apart from staying away from the car!

Everyone who's been in the car says how great the seats are, but not for me. I'm 6'4" tall and I can honestly say that in almost 30 years of driving dozens and dozens of different types of car, I've never had a problem like this. I don't actually find the seat itself uncomfortable, but it's the pain which it causes which I can't take.

It's so bad that if I can't find a way round it, I'm going to have to seriously think about selling the car......

I'm 6 foot 2, and have no problems, infact i regularly make the journey from kidderminster to Ashford, Kent only stopping at Clacket Lane to refuel. My old Astra Turbo used to KILL my back and had to do regular stops to stretch, but I must say the Ro's seats are perfect for me.
Pain in your legs maybe due to lack of blood supply ( i did notice after driving the infamous Audi, that when i got back in the Ro, my natural seating position was very laid back/bucket seat esq) this puts a lot more pressure on the back of your knee, possibly stopping some circulation.
Just my tuppence worth...

after getting out of the zed and into the ro I was seriously dissapointed at the comfort. The zed I covered 1200 miles in a day and got out with no aches or pains. The ro is completely different.

However much messing about its crap just canot get it right. That was until it was into the garage, the mech took it on a test spin and the seat is kept to his settings. Virtually flat and as low down as it goes. Much better for me

No problems with the 'ro myself but have had the leg pain thing with a focus I used to have, reason (and cure) was to make sure there is a lot of leg support up to and under the knees. The right leg suffers as it help in one place when cruising. Have heard this is common and results in aching legs, hips, back and indeed - as stated on top gear by some celeb who had a golf, something known as 'golf ball'.

Exactly right, I suffer quite badly with lower back pain and the Monaro has been one of the best in terms of comfort. Try raising the front of the base so the backs of your legs are supported and try reclining the back a little. Of course everyone is different but this works for me and I'm 6' 2"

Some good tips there - I've tried all sorts of seating positions but I'll have another go. After spending time in the car today, I currently have a support belt on and can hardly move grumpy - hope I can improve it without fitting replacement seats!

Hi, First post here but I had a big problem getting a good seating position in the Monaro but found that if I turned the lumber bar right in it became very comfy if a little short under my legs.

Boys just put your bottoms in the VXR8 and see how much quicker and easier it is to get the seat in a comfortable postion, have not got mine yet but have now spent about an hour at the helm, for me I have found it much more comfortable than the Monaro, don't think I ever did get the seat right in the 5K miles I did in my old Monaro, mind you never had any problems with back or leg ache even on longish drives up to about 300 miles.

Question for MOGV8,

Hows it going ? Thanks for the glasses mate.

12 weeks ago I had a discectomy and find the `ro` a very comfortable place to be.
The main problem will be if the seat is reclined too much as this will load up the lower lumber area. If you are experiencing pain into your feet then you have a problem with the S1 joint ( base of spine) if not and just in the legs its probably L3/L4. Keep the seat as upright as is comfortable for you and have the steering wheel raised to a higher than normal position, hold the wheel with both hands to help release some of the upper body weight from the spine.
Be very careful when you first get out of the car, resist the urge to immediatly stretch your back, walk about for a few minuites then stretch backwards with your hands placed on your bum, as if you have your fingers but not your thumbs in your back pockets. This will create a lower back lordosis and improve blood flow to the region.

If this helps PM me as I have Physio three times a week so I`ve got loads of handy hints.

Hi Andy,

Going very well, I am a happy man indeed. Having lots of fun in the wet, reminds me of an ex-Rally Vauxhall Firenza I had 25+ years ago, someone had had dropped in a Ford RS3.1 V6 engine. Lots of power, not so much wet grip. =Excellent fun.

Ditto the leg support, I also use full lumbar and an additional towel which gives a comfy position.
