Santa Pod today. Yellow Monaro beaten on the drag strip by, of all things a Nova! Witnessed by my kids, and clip on their phone!
Monaro's street cred blown into the weeds, do I now have to sell it and get a grey Fiat Panda?
If anyone needs to see the evidence, I'll get my son to post it, but it doesn't make for easy viewing.

Gotta be kidding me - Monaros aren't fast up the 1/4. Pretty much any Nova with a 2.0 Turbo lump in it will wee all over a Monaro! (I've seen it tons of times).

It's hardly something to be embarrassed about. Nearly 2 tons over a 1/3 of that with the ability to put power down.

I`ve seen Volkswagen Beetles that would poo all over a Maclaren F1 on the drag strip so I really don`t think seeing a Monaro getting pasted is anything special.

There`s a lot of really really quick stuff on the strip.

I got my arse handed to me on a plat by a 305 at Shakespears

in my defence I'd had the car a week, stock tune etc

his was totally stripped out and he beat me by half a second. Best run I managed was 15.5

more power etc should improve it a bit, used to the gears/clutch etc. One of the big problems, aside from spinning up, was the length it takes on a standard shifter to change the gears

I feel for you buddy, but rather than buy a Nova how about investing in a supercharger, and then revisiting Santapod, hopefully things would be a bit different.

Sorry, I don't know. He never got that on his phone. My kids don't know what was under the bonnet of the Nova, but it was well quick!
As for 'Stig's' comments, you're quite right, they dont want to go to school in a Nova, well, the youngster doesnt. The other goes to work.
I used to have a quick Granada estate a long time ago. I still like them, but yes, up to 60, they could be beaten by a quick Escort!

One of the funniest things I ever saw was a shitbox mk1 Escort burn off a BMW M3 from the traffic lights in Staines. From the noise and the turbo whistle I can only assume it had a Cosworth engine under the bonnet.

I was there in my silver CV8. The yellow 05 CV8 ran a time of 15.5 at 93MPH. His first ever run at the strip. I ran a 13.8 at 103MPH, but mine isn't standard. Shame they didn't record a clip of my best (6th) run. Would have loved to see that one.

Sorry Gas Man, checked with my sons, they didn't see you, let alone record it. Clearly 'selective vision'. I'll speak to them severely,(or consign them to a Nova!)Have to say though, your times are more like I expected for a 'ro, and my lads did say that the yellow one didn't have a good start. Have you done much to mod yours?

Yes. I have Focus Pac (430bhp) from Monkfish, and AP's and ripshifter, road response pac, and some cosmetic mods too (tints, altezza rear lights, private plate). Odf course it IS the fastest colour!
