Wortec or Milltek?
Discussion
Looks like I'm up for a Catback system and I'm after advice on which.
Obviously 90% of people seem to have the Wortec, but from what I read the Milltek sounds more deep V8 while the Wortec sounds more Italian?
I can find some sound clips of the Wortec system on YouTube, but nothing on the Milltek. Anyone got a comparative sound clip?
Who can you get the Milltek from (I know who does the Wortec) and once re-mapped is the performance increase about the same?
Anything else I should know?
Any other makes (available in the UK) that I should consider?
Cheers
Steve

I went through the same scenario 3 months ago and after a lot of searching and asking questions it seems that the Wortec was the exhaust to go for. I've had cat back Millteks before on 2 different Audi S4's and I didn't find that much difference from stock, just a little more bass to the sound, but the difference from a standard Monaro to a catback Wortec was a lot bigger difference.

There is a distinct lack of any video/sound clips on the forum to be honest. I have searched and came back with nothing at all really.
I think the forum should have some form of a sticky with video and sound clips so that people can show off what they have done to their Monaro and people looking to buy exhausts/headers/CAI etc may hear what such mods sound like.
Failing that, if anyone has some time could you please post some short sound clips of in car sound at different speeds and revving stationery so that we may hear what your set ups sound like??
I'm sure people who are looking to buy and people who have similar setups will enjoy the contributions all the same!!
Thanks in advance.

but out of interest when you were searching and asking what exactly made you feel wortec over miltek other than the fact most have the wortec? Not to say either is better or worse than the other just asking what made you decide it was the one to go for?I went through the same scenario 3 months ago and after a lot of searching and asking questions it seems that the Wortec was the exhaust to go for. The sound is very very definitely different to standard and as said is a deep more traditional noise - it isnt too offensive either but I know the wortec does have loud or silent modes too.

5 things made me buy a new exhaust and choose Wortec.
1) The stock sound is too puny
2) Stock twin rear pipes are puny and hard to clean
3) Previous experience of Millteks - sound nice but not quite noisy enough.
4) I read somewhere where a comment was made that 2 Milltek fitted car owners admitted the Wortec sounded better/louder
5) JJ from this site kindly bought his Wortec fitted VXRr to my house for a test ride - game over.
JJ had exactly the set up I was after. I was intially worried that the exhaust would be too noisy as I leave for work around 6.30 in the morning but after listening to his car and running mine for the last 3 months, I think the sound is just about right. Not too obtrusive at low/cruising speeds but sounds great when you blip the throttle or give the car large portions of wellington
My exhaust is set permanently loud and I wouldn't change that. PS - The Milltek is the cheaper option but I have no regrets going the Wortec route.
PPS - The Milltek would sound noisier with a change of cats and headers. (but then so would the Wortec)
PPPS - I've just turned 50 so I'm no boy racer but somebody who still loves his cars (and bikes, but I just wrote that off
)the Miltek of course includes sports cats and so should offer better flow for the exhaust gases. For a 3rd option Mark at Rapid is now offering Di Fillippo 2.5" and 3" systems including headers and sports cats - around 1500+VAT for 2.5" and 2200 for the 3" iirc. Might be worth a call. I am one of the Miltek owners and although I reckon the Wortec sounds better I couldnt live with it day to day without the back boxes in place and to be honest I like the sound from my car and the burble and pops and bangs on the overrun. Having said that if I could get a decent price for it I'd sell it and go for the Di Fillipo and header package as its awkward getting headers for the Miltek - involves some custom pipework.

Richard (V8 EOL) had a Wortec catback which sounded excellent at the Corvette Nats a week or two back. Very deep rumble. Mine in comparison was quite high pitched and raspy (old skool install from 2001), though fortunately doesn't drone at all on the motorways like my old camaro used to.
wasnt having a go about the wortec just was asking how you came to the decision! I've got long tube headers and yes you have to do some alteration to the cats but it is my understanding this would be the case with any long tubes - unless the cats come specially designed for use with long tubes
