I know this is going against the grain of what these machines are designed for but I need something to tow my race car once in a while (only a lightweight car/trailer so not going to put any great physical demands on the car). It would be my daily driver so this decision will mean a boring German SUV option or going all out for a monster V8 which is what I really want.

What I'm not sure about it whether or not there are any issues with getting a tow bar fitted, people mention type approval to me and I get a bit lost. I think from earlier posts there is a tow bar option (would need a personal import I guess) at least for the Holden version in Aus so I assume that even with some local modification something will fit on it (fog light position springs to mind) but not sure if there are any other issues I need to consider to ensure any legality and therefore ensure no insurance issues should a problem arise. There are obviously also specialist manufacturers who may be cheaper than an import but the same questions apply.

Now the VXR8 is available does anyone know if they are plated for towing or not i.e. on the chassis plate is there a gross weight rating that would incorporate a towed vehicle. For example, I had an Evo 8 which was the official euro import and that had a blank where it would be listed but all the other Ralliart FQ/MR models kept the rating displayed as per the Japan model as they were less official imports if that makes sense i.e. modd'ed Jap models, something to do with the numbers of cars being imported and the type of vehicle approval that the manufacturer goes through?

I also quite like the idea of being on the inside lane at traffic lights when people fly down on the outside of you expecting to be slow away with a trailer and see their faces when they see the tow car!
