Just looking at Ferbs thread on track days and decided to check out Oulton Parks site for possible novice days as I've got two weeks of r&r begining in August.

Looked at noise level limits and this is what is stated:

"Brands Hatch Indy, Oulton Park, Cadwell Park and Snetterton

Cars: Saloon & Sports Cars - 105dB(A) measured statically at 0.5metres and 45deg angle, at ¾ maximum rpm "

I'd love to have a go at least once, but I'm sure I've read on here that some of you have been 'spoken to' re exhaust notes! I should have headers/active exhaust set up by the time I want to have a go in August.

I've had a look at Monkfish's graph but I'd rather have the benefit of others experience if poss.

Cheers
Paul

A catback in loud mode will fail their tests.

A catback in quiet mode passes, just.

Mine at Brands last year was just in limit apparently.

These are big engines guys, don't lose sight of that.

Most of the others there will be 3litres or less.

Thanks.

I thought there might be a problem with this. Shame really. I know a few peeps who go on a regular basis to Anglesey and Oulton and have 'smaller' cars. Been asked a few times about whether or not I'd like to join them, but lack of experience and doubts on noise levels have made me step back.

Nige, was it you in a post a long while back got 'flagged' or am I imagining things again?

Oulton Park do noise testing for £10. Might go and see as it's only an hours drive.

This noise level thingy is getting a bit too pc. just as well I'm going against the grain then isn't it?

You are absoultly right, go a long to any track and have it tested, and yes a tenner in the tea money fund is all that is required.

105db is what they call a noisey day! and just as long as you take your time getting up to the 4,000 revs, there is a good chance you will get through, if however you stab the throttle then forget it.

There are after market "cans" that slip up the tail pipes and these are a very good investment if you intentend to do a lot of events. If it is just the odd one then just buy some stainless steel "pot scourer balls" from your local supermarket and stuff them up the tails, a small piece of sprung wire will hold them in place just long enough to get through the stactic test.

Drive by's well just get someone to point out where they are and feather the throttle at that point on the track.

Have fun and I hope this helps.

I'm taking it that there is no problem with MOT's with it set to loud? I don't think that there is a noise limit as part of the test is there?

DevilYellowCV8, D'not worry about lack of experience on race tracks. Get info on the circuit your going to, ie details of correct lines, watch in car videos etc. You always have sighting laps so go slowly as to know the correct lines. When going out at speed, go at your own pace and short shift the gears till your confident to push harder.
Just go for it driving

That was Malc at Bedford where admitedly they seem stricter on noise than say Brands.

Cheers Guys,

It's really tempting when you have a car like this. It's just a crime not to have fun with it. It feels wasted just pottering about on the local roads with the Osama Bin Brunstrum hit squad just waiting to pounce from behind every corner.

I guess I can somehow get it through noise testing with careful use of the right foot. Only the colour of the car will then be louder!!

I did Brands last April without SC but same exhaust and headers. No one was tested and I was left alone the whole time.
