Buying - Network Q/Dealership or Private??
Discussion
Hi G, My CV8 came from a network Q dealer simply for my peace of mind. Like you I spent a lot of time sussing out the form before I chose one. Generally Monaro's seem pretty well screwed together and reliable but because its kinda scary how much this motors costing me relative to my income, there,s not a piggy bank full of money for any nasty suprises! Previous experience with Network Q has been good. While there's lots of good private motors out there I kinda suppose the question is do you know enough about Monaro's to spot a bad one? Hope that helps.
Yeah thats exactly the way I am looking at it.
I can see me buying from a dealership to be honest just for that peace of mind as you said, its quite a lot of cash and I don't really want to have any issues, although that cannot be helped sometimes.
It was quite funny that the Monaro specialist at the dealer yestesterday admitted that they like to look after buyers who purchase from them with warranty but people who buy private but with warranty left they aren't so bothered about. I found that quite interesting.
Cheers

I used the network q website when I was looking, plus here and lots of other places. I'm sure that for the same money on a private purchase I would have had more in the way of modifications (a guy on here was selling his 04 for £5000 less than I paid, not much more mileage and lots of mods!). Just could'nt bring myself to be that brave, for me it had to be as new and with the lowest mileage I could find. £5000 could easily be swallowed up in a new engine or gearbox plus recovery and all the hassle that brings. Holden's have a good reputation but there must be some friday afternoon motor's somewhere in the world,be just my luck to buy one!

Just a quick tip when you go spending your hard earned. Dont forget to pop the bonnet and show the salesman the manufacture'rs plate. It may say 07 on the reg but it wont say so on the plate (04/05 is the best you'll get!) Saved me some money!
Never knew about that!!
I thought they generally translated pretty well, so it would be as much as a few years out?
Every little bit counts when trying to get a bit of cash off the price mind, you say this worked a treat for you?
Cheers

All Monaro's stopped production in 2005 I think. My build plate says built March 05 but it was registered April 2006, but most are like this!
Bought mine from Greens because it's common sense that a dealer is gonna look after you much better if you bought from them! Plus got lucky with right car, right time

Whilst all of the cars may have been built as part of the 2005 MY, the build dates do vary. Crucially a late car will have 3yrs of manufacturer warranty remaining whilst an early car will now be out of warranty. The bits on these cars are pretty expensive so the warranty is a key element of any decision.
Given the price premium dealers charge, it is potentially better to go for a late 2006/7 VXR privately rather than pay a dealer similar money for a 2005 car.
On that note due to a rather nice barn conversion which has caught our eye my 2007 6L VXR (5K) miles might be available at £23k. IM me if interested.

Alright Bennno,
Could you tell me everything about your VXR, colour, condition, service, maintenance, modifications etc
Basically everything you can think of, just e-mail me if you prefer to do that.
Cheers mate

I bought second hand from Network Q and within a month had new front discs and a replacement gearbox done under warranty. The 'box alone would have been 7 grand apparently!
It's things such as this that almost seal the deal for me on buying from a Network Q Dealer.
Although there are quite a few tidy little deals around at the minute, which makes the private buy tempting.
Obviously every car has its 3 year warranty, whether private or dealer purchase.
At the moment from a dealer I'd be lookng at an 06/56 plate with around 7000 on the clock for £25000, which when you think of the added comfort isn't such a bad offer....

my first cv8 had a replacement gearbox alsonetwork Q or manufacturer warranty is key
2007 reg'd car will be covered to 2010, 06 to 2009, 05 to 2008, 04 to 2007 or expired

Aye, I think thats the route I'll be taking unless a mint Red 6.0L VXR with a Wortec package comes up for good money around a 56 plate, then I may change my mind as even if it didn't have a Network Q warranty it would still have the remainder of the manufacturer 3 year warranty.
