Weird water marks on the dial covers - i.e Speedo
Discussion
Hi Chaps,
I am just wondering if this has happened to anyone else, last week I noticed about 10-15 weird blobs like water marks on my speedo/dials cover. However, they will not go with normal cleaning and appear to be on the inside. Now, my car was stood for approx 1 week while I was down south on a course, could it be mosture ??
Even the 5 odd hours of drive yesterday and another 2.5 hours today have not changed anything (climate between 18 and 27 oC).
Any ideas ??
Cheers
Steven

I reckon it's more to do with the plastic it's self tbh Steven. Moisture may have got into the polymer bead mix prior to mould injection of the sheet plastic. Tends to show up more in clear plastics.
We've had this experience with injection moulded appliances we've done here at work. It turns out on complaint to the company who supply the polymer cartridges, that for some reason the factory doors were left open on a certain damp, cold day and the high moisture content in the air got absorbed into the polymer beads prior to sealing in their air-tight cannisters. This tends to then show up as pale or cloudy marks depending on the colour of the material being injected.
Very simple explanation from a dental point of view there! Hope it's of some use!!!

I used to "make" the said plastic chips for extrusion and injection moulding many many moons ago. It is true that the moisture levels are critical to the compound PRIOR to manufacture of the component, but why would this show up now?(ie not directly after manufacture?)
Contaminated air moisture (such as exhaust gases - BTW i'm not saying you have Exhaust gases in the car, only an example!) would also leave residue as it dries - Just my twopenneth worth IMHO.

Good point, does usually show up within an hour after injection, but we have had a couple of appliances come back after 4 months or so with irrgegular 'blooming'. Perhaps it's just some other form of contamination at source ie chemical perhaps reacting to UV light or even an automotive cleaning chemical??

Thanks for the feedback guys.
Is there a solution ?? I mean other than removing most of the dashboard or getting a dealer to take a look ?? If it is a DOY job it can wait a little while.
Is it worth me trying a hair dryer on the plastic and see what happens ?? I don't mean melt it obviously.
Cheers
