I'm asking this on behalf of Jeremy (PH name Daddy) who is unable to post on PH at the moment (but can still read the posts) - so apologies if this makes no sense.

What's an all-round better tyre than the PPZR with a tougher sidewall? Perhaps I should stick with them until a newer version comes out or I get some wider rims then I may take some advice on getting tyres with a higher loading than the 93Y?

I want to have 2 rear tyres fitted and wondered what everyone thought were the best ones. Pirelli P Zero Rossos 245/35 ZR19 (93Y) are a bit hard to get hold of. I'm now wondering about putting some others on or if anyone know's where I can get hold of two.

I've gone for the Pirelli P Zero Rosso's (PPZR) in the end even with the 5 day back order, I'm just legal at present.

10k service is Friday want them on before this.

Many thanks in advance,

Daddy (via Kinky)

Hmm.

In the P Zero Rosso zone with the added need of stiff sidewalls I'd consider an Pilot sport (or pilot spot 2) ( http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Michelin/Pilot-S... ) which will offer fantastic grip and life or for a slightly cheaper tyre a Bridgestone RE050.

The Goodyear GSD3s, Falken FK452s and Toyo T1Rs that most people recommend are all quite wear in the sidewall.

Unfortunately I have no car specific tyre reviews for your car on the site yet.

I've ran 2 sets of P Zeros and whilst they are ok I had a tyre wall explode. Only reason for 2nd set was they were in stock and matched the fronts.

On the Zed i ran the Michellin sports - excellent tyre so will consider them next, though I have a good set of federals lying in the garage....

I have tried a few.

Kept to the Potenza's but not overly happy with them.

Tried Toyo's but nothing special.

Michelin Pilot Sports were okay but expensive.

Goodyear Eagle F1's are great in the wet, good price and not bad in the dry. Going to go for them next and the wear is okay too

P Zero Rossos were fine before the Road Response Pack was fitted.

Now tends to tramline a little so will go for a softer sidewall next time round.

Thought about them but they've changed their pattern design to assymetrical, looking a lot like the Pirelli's, don't trust tyre's with no reviews. Went with the Falkens and after initial dodgyness very happy with them. Plus have the advantage of being symetrical so if you get excessive wear due to camber swop sides and you get double the tyre life compared with pirelli's. smile

You are not going to like this but I am happy with the tyre below, at £100 a corner I like the price too, had them a year and stand up well against other tyres that I have tried on the GTS & will use them again.

Nankang NS-2 245/35 ZR19 93Y

Waits to get flamed now...

I've ran NS2s on track and road. Good tyre for the money but ultimately awful in the wet and pretty leathal on high powered cars. Go really hard, overheat and grain really badly. As we're talking about monaros here i'd be cautious.

Actualy V8HSV I used to run Kuhmo Ecsta Supra 2's. Fantastic tyres at the price and I might see if they still do things in our sizes as they were genuinely good tyres for the price.

Also use Falken 452's, better tyre but then they cost more

Had my Falkens for a few months now and with the recent weather obviously had some diverse conditions to give them a work out in. Have to say so far they seem very good, equally as good as any premium brand tyres I've had in the past. Real test left is to see how long they last, but at £460 fitted for four 19's I'm very happy with them.

Yes, they are good, as the car understeers I have Nankang at the front & Falkens at the rear which seem to work well for me & the car, I just don't like shredding tyres over £200 each plus I had a blow out with the Potenza.

I use Dunlop Sportmaxx tyres on my supercharged Mustang with a 275/35 profile and very good they are too. Certainly as good as the GS-D3s I used to have on my Z28. The CV8 is about 180lbs heavier than the Mustang.

Great tyre, use 215/35/17 Sporetmaxx on my smart, very similar to Pirelli Zero Nero that I have used...

Apparently they don't do the Eagle F1 in the non assymetic style any more. It is advised as well that you shouldn't run the assymetic and non-assymetric tyres together.

The F1's I have on the front of mine would be perfect for the rears. There is a little bit of scrubbing on the inside, but all in all it isn't too bad. Anyone interested in buying them?

They do still make the original F1s, just in limited sizes as they still have OEM contracts etc. I'm waiting to hear from goodyear for the full range still made.
