The car isn't Thatcham rated. For the 'small' amount of cars Vauxhall were bringing in, it would have cost too much to go through assessment cutting profits.

I think Vauxhall class the Holden fitted immobiliser equivalent to Thatcham 2. Hope that's some help.

I'm guessing you have the GM "pass-key III" not usually recognised by UK insurers other than standard manufacturers VATS. AON insisted my trans-am (worth £25K at the time) had a thatcham-1 sytem fitted and wanted a copy of the certificate.

The Tahoe I shipped in new, insured with Stevensons (worth £36k) didn't require any additional VATS

If an insurer insists on an additional system, it may be worth paying a bit more to another that doesn't

Elephant/Admiral/Bell don't require and Thatcham alarm or a tracker and were very cheap for me. You can upgrade it relatively cheaply with a Cobra 3868 Thatcham 1-2 upgrade alarm:

Since the standard immobiliser is a Cat 2 equivalent most places will issue you with a Cat 1 certificate when fitting that kit (the fitter I spoke to said this). I was quoted £200 all in.

I believe a number of CV8 were fitted with Cat 1 systems, these were fitted for Vauxhall by Meta System.

I contacted Meta System, (01905 791 700) who upon providing VIN number confirmed my monaro had been fitted with

M36T2 Meta Thatcham Cat 2 immobiliser
MVX2 Vauxhall Thatcham Cat 2 to 1 upgrade

meaning the monaro has effectively Cat 1 Thatcham security fitted. They even sent me a letter to confirm this - great service.

This system works using the monaro key.

Interesting, any idea of the cost to get one retrofitted?
