Best Fuel / Wortec 6.0VXR
Discussion
I have a 6.0 VXR with the Wortec performance pack. Does anyone have the same configuration and have you played with fuel types.
I guess BP Ultimate or Shell V-Power are likely candidates but anyone picked a favourite having tested them ?? What about Tesco 99 ?
Thoughts or suggestions welcome.

Dunno about your specific engine, but my tuned CV8 runs best on Tesco 99... heard some people have had issues with BP Optimax. I work to the maxim that since fuel loses octane rating through time when sitting in a tank it's best 1. to start with higher rated fuel (99 as opposed to 97) and to use fuel from garages with high turn over of fuel (Tesco runs through its stock rapidly).
Just my twopennorth.

Love Tesco`s 99
Hate B.P optimax
Detonation problems on Shell Vmax.

Wierd, Mark from RapidGB told me today his remaps are always designed to run on 95 unleaded even with a blower so it's not like you have to use the high octain stuff. Is there any real benefit for a daily driver?

The better the quality of fuel used the less chance of detonation which will turn your standard pistions into sieves in short order.
Yes you can run 95 but I can guarantee it won`t be cheaper in the long run if you push your car hard.
That`s why tuners remap for the higher octane, it gives a larger margin of safety.

But they don't always tune for higher Octane as I said above. If it's been tuned on a rolling road for 95 Ron then there should be no problem, the rating increases the knock point, not the calorific value of the fuel, neither is it an indication of fuel quality. By retarding the ignition a little you may lose a few bhp but with 550+ who cares? It's different trying to get 300bhp from a 2 litre petrol, but most of us are still under the 100bhp/litre threshold.
By tuning for a lower octane fuel they increase the margin of safety because it will still run happily on the cheaper stuff, albeit in a slightly lower state of tune.

Anyone unfortunate enough to visit fuel terminals on a regular basis (as I do) would be supprised to see just how many different retailers uplift their fuels from the same source! Asda,Shell,Jet,Morrisons,Tesco's,Esso etc can all be seen any day of the week in Conoco at Immingham. Some of the higher end retailer's have there own additives that are injected as they load, but the fuel is the same stuff.
Wormus is right re fuel. Go with what its tuned for. I topped up on vmax the other day but could swear my std tuned mix of 97 octane stuff felt better.
If you put to higher octane in your optimal Min Best Timing point will change and you may actually lose power. Yes it will be safer, but it wont necessarily have more power. Bottom line check with the tuner!

What ever fuel you use make sure you buy it from a 'high turnover' outlet.
My local garage only has small tanks and has a fresh delivery each day. I buy from them and its a lot better from garages where fuel sits around for weeks before its sold.
Modern fuel goes off very quickly (about as quick as live beer for those of you that know what I mean).
If you store you car, the fuel will go off - even in a week

So Wortec1, if you are using Tesco 99, can we assume that is optimum ? Does it differ by state of tune (I have the performance pack with headers and exhaust, but I am sure other will be interested to know)If you put to higher octane in your optimal Min Best Timing point will change and you may actually lose power.
