Can anyone tell me the origin of a Monaro gear box? I know the engine was developed for the C5 Corvette, but they have a rear mounted gear boxe if im not mistaken. Is the diff also from a vette?
On a different note on checking the rear tyres on a 6000 mile CV8 there was only 4mm of tread left. Does this indicate the traction control has been turned off, and the car abused, or has the engine torque done the damage?

The Monaro, Commodore, Camaro, Viper, Corvette, some Aston's all use a T56, along with many other vehicles

Same with many gearboxes, ther are variations on fitment, but they use similar parts.

Similarly Fords use an MT75 gearbox...this comes in rwd, 4wd, and fwd format, but they still have a MT75 name tag, with letters to denote fitment.

But yes, the Vette does use a T56 based transaxle. But the T56 internals are pretty much same as Camaro T56 etc etc

As for the tyres...tyres do wear, its quite normal. How fast, could mean many things.

Unless tyre wear is uneven around the car etc, and on each tyre, I wouldnt be too concerned.
