I've only had my Monaro for a few months and plan to keep it for years. How about you, will you be faithful to the 'Ro or do you plan to get the luxobarge Vxr8 ?

Im new here and getting my VXR this week. Had a look at the VXR8 when I went to look at the Monaro. Nice car but its a very different car so I made a consious decission not to compare the two. I like the coupe shape and mine is only a weekend car so I dont need the flexibility of 4 doors, boot etc etc. The sat nav would have been nice mind...

Meet Mr TomTom he is as good as a factory fitted bit of kit but £150.

Why spend £2k on something you dont get nowt back on come resale?

Got one mate. Just like the factory fitted look but agree with yr sentimants. Blue tooth for the phone would be cool to but already getting a nokia kit sorted out through the car phone warehouse. At least being on here has let me find were the connection plug is.

the ro will look good in 5 or 10 years whilst the vxr8 will be as appealing as oral sex with anne widecombe

he has a point you know, the ro is the sort of car you draw when you are a kid, that's why every bloke i've met likes it.

I think I made a thread a while back about coupes aging well. The Probe, MK2 MR2, MKIV Supra, all still look fresh compared to their 4 door counterparts

I had a Monaro as a courtesy car from monkfish whilst my VXR8 was having its wortec fitted.

I would rather pull my own teeth out with pliers than get in another Monaro. Might be a confrontational statement for you RO owners but at least your loyalty is commendable. Would be a difficult choice between Anne and a Monaro though!!!!

The 'ro and VXR8 are aimed and will appeal to different customers.

I haven't had a four door for many years, I will be quite honest I don't like the look of them compared with a nice 2 door coupe. Somehow the 4 doors spoil the lines of the car for me. If someone offered me a VXR8 for nothing then I would take it but also keep the 'ro. If you regularly carry around more than a couple of people then the VXR8 is probably more suitable.

The 'ro is far from perfect, so is the VXR8, but for the money I really can't think of a car that I would prefer at this price range or even twice as much.

Like you say each to their own.

I do respecet other peoples choices and at least we bat on the same side against the likes of the scooby and evo brigade.

Had a Monaro 6ltr VXR and loved it, took a test drive in the VXR8 and loved it more so now own one with almost all the toys, could not go back to a Monaro, it's not perfect but not that far off.

imho its a bit like the emperors new clothes at the moment, both cars are more similar to each other than anything else on the market

i havent seen a fully positive review of the vxr8 as yet either, as autocar still mention odd rear end behaviour under breaking on every car they have tested

I am not a car reviewer ala Autocar, but i have had a lot of cars AMGs,Porsches ect and i really do think the VXR8 is a fantastic car. I have seen no bad points whatsoever during normal road driving and i will not be taking it on the track to find where its limits are and hence its downsides.

I do think that a lot of people are being negative about the car in realisation that the VXR8 is a much more accomplished car than the RO, both in looks, quality and driveabilty. As an owner you have to appreciate i would say that and that others rate their own wheels equally so. I think Andy and those that have taken the plunge will agree and i think the more RO drivers who take a test drive before they make comments will come around to that way of thinking.

for me the biggest factor is weight, the 'ro isn't exacly light but it's much better than the (nearly 2 tonnes) vxr8 which, with tall gearing regularly gets thrashed to 100mph.

On the road a VXR8 in std trim is a much quicker point to point tool than a Monaro 6.0 VXR. Not jumping on either side here, but, those that have driven the two will already know that. Aesthetics is always going to be more down to personal choice and the 'Ro is arguably prettier and a more classic non corporate GM design, but under th skin the game has been moved on. Fortunately we have two great cars to choose from, and enhance!!! driving

Well after a test drive in a VXR8 I simply couldn't see enough benefit to justify the extra cost of changing from my Monaro. With the money saved by NOT changing I can throw more at the Ro and have just as much fun!

For what its worth and looks etc aside, having taken a spin in Greens red VXR8 a couple of weeks back I would agree that it seems a much more accomplished car. The two things that stood out most for my wife and I were the ride quality (running on 19's but with standard suspension)which was must less fidgety than my 04 CV8 and to offset that the amount of body roll. (On the subject, thnaks to Brian at Greens for taking a different car home on the Friday night so the VXR8 was there for me on Saturday morning - bet you noticed the difference driving that Brian!)
