Hi mate, that was me, I was trying to sort out a fan belt squeal (I think its an idler pulley) but once it had quieted down I decided to do a noisy bypass of the camping hippies, considering theres supposed to be 2k+ of them we didnt see one. This protest will probably be the easiest policed event ever, atm it just seems to be a bunch of workshy scroungers in a field smoking pot all day (probably like most of them do anyway at our expense all the time). Do you work around heathrow, cause thats the first time Ive seen another holden in the area in over 6 months. Anyway see you around, take care, John
Hi John, your car sounds lovely from behind. Yes I live less than a mile away from there and was just out for lunch when I met you.
I had a real good laugh at a hippie's expence yesterday. As I came out of Heathrow Point West I saw a hippie who had just had the full shakedown by the police in a riot van outside mcDonalds. Haven't seen those in action for ages and all the stripes were faded as clearly it hadn't been used. Anyway I asked said hippie dude if he would like a lift as I drive past 'their' camp on my way home, after all my car looks inoculous enough. He said it as only ten minutes walk and I reminded him that there was another police checkpoint to walk past on foot at the entrance to the quarry for the 16tonners and that they would probably harrass him again, so he grabbed his roll up bedding and backpack and got in
I asked if there was going to be any trouble during their stay, and he replied, "Well man like 40 officers just marched through 'our' camp yesterday and like I got real pumped up about it and a few of us were going to get involved with police"..I reminded him that the land they were illegally occupying was not theirs and that the paperwork to expel them from the land was already on the way
By now he was belted in and I had just arrived at the lights where I met you waiting to turn onto the A4. I asked him to clarify his policy on vehicle emissions at which point he went into one about greenhouse gasses etc. As the lights changed I looked quickly for plod and after not seeing any dialled in about 5k before dropping the clutch and proceeded to drift around the very sharp right hander (with the bit of pavement that just out) and for about 50 yards onto the A4. Said hippy went very quiet.. I said, "What do you think of my car, it's a 5.7 litre with nearly 400hp and does nought to a gallon of fuel in about ten seconds?". Hippy silent not replying.. Lights changed and we turn right into Sipson lane. Floored it again once clear of the police station as nothing there and braked hard for the sharp blind left-hander, hippy now making full use of the seatbelt. Crawled past the quarry entrance manned by more police and once clear of the next bend it gave me one opportunity of a second gear WOT until I approached the next checkpoint. When I pulled up to the entrance of Sipson Lane, the police have actually blocked off the road to the playing fields and now is 'access only' and that involves a full car search so I dropped him off at entrance much to the suprise of the police officers who were upholding the blockade. After he had gone, somewhat shaken I asked the officers what was happening and was told, "We are expecting some trouble later this week when the warrant arrives to remove them from the land". I told him that I had reminded the hippie that as long as their protest remained totally peacefull that the local residents that opposed the 3rd runway (me for one) were behind them. Sadly I doubt very much if the lentilists will keep it peaceful as the hippie already told me that there were activists in the camp that wanted to 'have a go' when 40 police marched through their camp
I have not seen so many police on walkabouts since the IRA threats and there are far more than there was then.

Nearly had to shoot a missed approach the other day (abort the landing for not aviation types) in a fully laden 777 due to soap shy tree huggers messing with the approach guidance.
Fortunately a timely runway switch saved us the trouble. But it's a monouver that would put more carbon into the air than all our cars put together for a week!!
Bunch of idiots have no clue of the risks they are causing, and the probable increase in carbon they will cause...........Now how do I get shot of these cataylitic converters.

They messed with the approach guidance systems Fortunately a timely runway switch saved us the trouble. But it's a monouver that would put more carbon into the air than all our cars put together for a week!!

How exactly? I would have imagined an action like that would have them all arrested and removed. Todays protest is (so far) peaceful if not rather
ing annoying. My car has thrown a belt while queueing and tryign to get through the bloackade

Jolly bad luck with the belt, hope it hasn't caused anymore damage.
Regarding the approach guidance, obviously I was at a couple of thousand feet up at the time, but as I understand it they put vehicles and bodies in close proximity of the ILS transmitter (though outside of the airfield perimeter) causing a deviation in the localizer guidance. And yes the police were involved hopefully there was a number of arrests.
Wow that is indeed scary stuff. What I cannot understand is how BAA allow the equipment to be in a public area in the first place. Surely if it is possible to change the information by people being in close proximity of it, it should be kept airside or in a non-public place?
Either way glad you got it down without incident. In an emergency that is a lot of mass to be hauled about at short notice

To clarify, the ILS transmitter is "airside", and the protesters were "landside", however they were still in close enough proximity to cause a disruption to the guidance system. I agree it shouldn't be able to happen, but that is the age of the technology in use sadley. I have known other airfields where there is a public road near by, for high sided vehicles, (busses or lorry's) to cause a wobble in the localizer guidance.
Well I'm off to the airport now so hopefully today will be less traumatic!!

Disgraceful behaviour SS HSV! Should have known far better than that! Use about 5500 revs next time; hope your passenger enjoyed the ride!
5500 revs just causes an endless wheelspin, whereas 5000 produces a shorter spin followed by a neck snapping surge which was the desired effect for the passenger
